Position Overview
IS4S is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support carriage equipment and associated electronics development for a U.S. Air Force weapon system integration effort on the B-52 Stratofortress platform. This is a key leadership role within a prime contractor organization responsible for delivering complex airborne weapon integration solutions in a highly regulated and mission-critical environment.
The selected candidate will lead the technical execution of systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle — requirements development, architecture, integration, verification, validation, and fielding — ensuring seamless integration of weapon systems onto the B-52 platform while maintaining airworthiness, safety, and mission effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for systems engineering activities supporting weapon system integration on B-52.
- Lead development and management of system requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and requirements verification.
- Oversee system architecture definition, trade studies, and integration strategies across avionics, mechanical, electrical, reliability, safety, nuclear certification, and software domains.
- Coordinate with Air Force stakeholders and subcontractors to ensure technical alignment and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with airworthiness, safety, cybersecurity, and configuration management requirements.
- Support risk identification, mitigation planning, and technical performance measurement.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster a disciplined, mission-focused engineering culture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 12 years of progressive experience in systems engineering within DoD aerospace or defense programs.
- Direct experience with airborne weapon system integration or aircraft modification programs.
- Strong understanding of requirements development (DOORS or similar tools preferred).
- Experience supporting verification and validation in accordance with DoD acquisition and systems engineering processes.
- Experience in planning, developing products for, and executing Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (i.e., Test Readiness Reviews, Functional Configuration Audits, Systems Verification Reviews, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
- Active Secret clearance required; ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting B-52 or other legacy bomber platforms.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-882 (System Safety), airworthiness processes, and USAF certification requirements.
- Knowledge of digital engineering environments and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Experience in an EVMS-controlled program environment.
- Master’s degree in a technical discipline preferred.
