Our client, a large local manufacturing company , is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and strengthen the accounting and finance function . This role will oversee financial reporting, general ledger accounting, cost accounting, inventory controls, budgeting, internal controls, and accounting systems. The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing accounting experience, including inventory, costing, variance analysis, and operational reporting. This is a high-impact role for someone who can work closely with leadership and operations while also being comfortable in the details. The position will require approximately 30–50% travel to out-of-state manufacturing facilities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily accounting and finance functions for a manufacturing business.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the general ledger, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close process.
- Lead cost accounting activities, including inventory, work-in-process, finished goods, overhead, standard costing, and variance analysis.
- Maintain and improve inventory control processes, including tracking, valuation, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Analyze production costs, margins, operating performance, and manufacturing variances.
- Partner with operations, production, supply chain, and senior leadership to provide financial insight and improve decision-making.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial planning activities.
- Strengthen internal controls over inventory, AP, AR, fixed assets, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Support audit activity, tax requests, compliance, and other corporate reporting needs.
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, reporting tools, and financial processes.
- Assist with ERP/system improvements or implementation projects as needed.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Travel approximately 30–50% to support out-of-state manufacturing facilities, including plant operations, accounting processes, inventory controls, and coordination with company leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience preferred.
- 5 years prior plant manufacturing accounting experience required.
- Strong cost accounting background, including inventory, COGS, overhead, WIP, standard costing, and variance analysis.
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems; QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, or similar systems preferred.
- Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and month-end close.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, growing-company environment.
- Ability to travel approximately 30–50% to out-of-state manufacturing facilities.
- Small relocation allowance may be available for an ideal candidate.

Salary : $140,000 - $165,000
