PSS -Peer Support Specialist

The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) provides recovery-oriented services to individuals with substance use and behavioral health needs by using their lived experience to inspire hope, promote self-advocacy, and support long-term recovery. The PSS works collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team to engage persons served, identify barriers to recovery, connect individuals with community resources, facilitate recovery planning, and provide ongoing encouragement throughout the treatment process. Responsibilities include community outreach, transporting persons served to approved appointments and recovery-related activities, assisting with intake and engagement, maintaining timely and accurate documentation, and representing ICGH professionally throughout the community. The PSS is expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries, adhere to the North Carolina Peer Support Code of Ethics, and support ICGH's mission of providing person-centered, recovery-focused care.

Our ideal Peer Support Specialist is an excellent communicator and active listener with strong recovery-oriented skills who thrives as part of a multidisciplinary team. Candidates must possess the ability to build trusting relationships, anticipate the needs of persons served, and demonstrate compassion while maintaining healthy professional boundaries. Applicants must be a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (or eligible for certification), have a minimum of two (2) years of sustained recovery, and maintain abstinence from all mood- and mind-altering substances. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a safe driving record are required, as this position includes transporting persons served and traveling throughout the assigned service area. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to ICGH policies, CARF standards, and ethical recovery support practices.
