Adolescent Mental Health & Substance Use Therapist

Description:

The ideal candidate understands the unique developmental needs of adolescents and is able to build strong therapeutic relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and actively involving parents, guardians, and other members of the treatment team when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive clinical assessments and assist with development of individualized, person-centered treatment plans.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy to adolescent clients.
  • Provide evidence-based and developmentally appropriate interventions for mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Identify and address co-occurring mental health, substance use, behavioral, family, and environmental concerns.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of client progress, risks, strengths, needs, and barriers to treatment.
  • Complete crisis assessments and safety planning when clinically indicated.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation in accordance with agency, payer, state, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, medical providers, schools, care coordinators, peer support staff, and other members of the treatment team as appropriate.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, clinical staffing, supervision, and required agency trainings.
  • Provide education and support to families regarding adolescent behavioral health, substance use, recovery, and available community resources.
  • Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries and adhere to all confidentiality, HIPAA, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Follow ICGH policies and procedures and applicable CARF and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with discharge and transition planning to promote continuity of care.
  • Complete other clinical duties as assigned within the scope of the employee's credentials and professional practice.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another related behavioral health field.
  • Current North Carolina clinical license or associate-level license appropriate to the position, such as LCMHC/LCMHCA, LCSW/LCSWA, LMFT/LMFTA, or LCAS/LCASA, as applicable.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in a behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use disorders, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adolescents, families, guardians, and multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Strong clinical documentation, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks, credentialing, and agency onboarding requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing therapy to adolescents with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Experience providing family therapy or working with family systems.
  • Experience in residential, crisis, outpatient, intensive outpatient, or other behavioral health treatment settings.
  • Training in evidence-based practices appropriate for adolescents and families.
  • Fully licensed clinicians are strongly encouraged to apply.
