Senior Project Designer - Commercial Architecture/Interior Design

INTEC Group, Inc.
Chantilly, VA Full Time
POSTED ON 10/19/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/15/2027

A background in architecture, interior design, or a closely related design field is REQUIRED for this position. Candidates that cannot demonstrate relevant design experience will not be considered for this opportunity.

At INTEC Group, we’re about two things: people and design—and more specifically, how design impacts people. How they work, how they connect, and how they find fulfillment. We believe design has the power to enhance the human condition, and we’re passionate about doing just that.

Your Role

As a Senior Project Designer at INTEC Group, you’re a creative leader and collaborator who thrives on turning ideas into meaningful design. You love the earliest stages of a project—developing the big idea, establishing an overall design concept, and creating a strong vision that gives the project its identity and direction. Working across both interior and architectural base building projects, you’ll collaborate closely with INTEC’s Creative Lead, Project Managers, and project teams to translate client goals and project requirements into thoughtful, innovative, and compelling design solutions

You’ll provide senior-level design leadership across projects, guiding teams as concepts evolve from initial vision into cohesive, well-crafted, and buildable designs. You’ll help ensure the design story remains clear and consistent throughout the process while collaborating with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal teams to solve challenges creatively and push the work forward.

Your influence extends beyond individual projects. You’ll mentor and inspire design staff, build strong client relationships, and contribute your creativity and design perspective to project pursuits, pitches, interviews, and other initiatives that showcase INTEC’s capabilities and support the continued growth of the firm.

This hybrid position requires at least three (3) days in the office each week and offers the flexibility to balance focused work and in-person collaboration in a way that works for you. While the schedule may shift based on project needs, our ideal candidate is local to the DMV area or actively relocating. Candidates seeking a fully remote opportunity will NOT be considered.

As a Senior Project Designer on the INTEC Group team, you will:

  • Provide senior-level design leadership across assigned interior and architectural base building projects, collaborating with the Creative Lead, Project Managers, and project teams to establish and maintain project-specific design goals.
  • Lead the creative design process from the very beginning—developing the big idea, overall design concept, and experience narrative that establish a clear vision and direction for each project.
  • Analyze client needs, project requirements, and design challenges to develop thoughtful, innovative solutions that balance creativity, functionality, and constructability.
  • Lead preliminary design efforts including programming, space planning, site observations, design studies, sketches, and other activities necessary to explore and establish project direction.
  • Utilize hand sketches, 3D modeling, renderings, material studies, presentations, and other appropriate tools to explore ideas and effectively communicate design concepts to clients and project teams.
  • Lead and provide oversight for the selection of materials, finishes, colors, fixtures, furniture, architectural elements, and other design components that support the overall concept while responding to performance, maintenance, sustainability, safety, budget, and project requirements.
  • Guide project teams as concepts evolve from conceptual and schematic design through design development, documentation, and construction administration, helping ensure the original design intent and quality are maintained throughout the project.
  • Review space plans, architectural concepts, and design solutions for functionality, aesthetics, constructability, accessibility, sustainability, and applicable code and life-safety requirements.
  • Prepare and/or provide senior-level direction for design presentations, programming and planning documents, equipment layouts, specifications, and other project-specific design deliverables.
  • Build strong client relationships and confidently lead design presentations, visioning sessions, discussions, and working meetings that engage clients in the design process and build consensus around solutions.
  • Serve as Project Manager on select projects, as appropriate, taking responsibility for client communication, project coordination, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and successful project execution in addition to providing design leadership.
  • Collaborate with consultants, engineers, INTEC’s furniture team, product representatives, fabricators, specialty vendors, and other project partners to achieve cohesive, well-coordinated design solutions.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and project leadership to make informed decisions that appropriately balance design quality, client objectives, scope, schedule, budget, and profitability.
  • Inspire creativity within project teams, encouraging exploration of multiple ideas and solutions while providing clear design direction and constructive feedback.
  • Mentor and guide designers, interns, and other team members throughout the design and production process, supporting their professional development and helping strengthen INTEC’s overall design culture.
  • Stay engaged with evolving design technologies, methodologies, materials, sustainability practices, and industry trends, identifying opportunities to enhance INTEC’s design process and project delivery.
  • Actively participate in business development and marketing efforts, including project pursuits, pitches, interviews, RFP/RFQ responses, client presentations, and design-related marketing initiatives; serve as an enthusiastic advocate for INTEC’s design capabilities within the broader design and real estate community.
  • Self-manage multiple projects, responsibilities, and priorities while maintaining proactive communication with Project Managers, Directors, project teams, and firm leadership; be willing to travel and adjust your schedule as needed to support project and client commitments.
  • Work hard but play hard as well…actively contributing to office activities, cultural initiatives, internal design discussions, professional development, and learning opportunities—and, last but not least, complete your timesheet daily.

Qualifications needed to be successful in this role include:

  • Professional degree (Master’s or Bachelor’s) in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 7–10 years of industry-related experience in architecture, interior design, or a related design discipline, with demonstrated experience leading the design of commercial projects.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual design thinking, creativity, and the ability to develop and execute a clear design vision across a range of project types, scales, and complexities.
  • Experience with the entire design process, from programming and conceptual design through design development, documentation, and construction administration.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural and interior design principles, space planning, building materials, finishes, construction methods, and applicable building codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Exceptional visual communication skills, with the ability to effectively develop and communicate design ideas through hand sketching, space planning, diagrams, presentations, renderings, material studies, and other visual storytelling methods.
  • Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD, along with experience using applicable design and visualization programs such as SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D rendering software.
  • An interest in emerging design technologies and methodologies, with a willingness to continually learn, evaluate, and implement new tools that enhance the design process.
  • Proven ability to provide creative direction, lead collaborative design efforts, and mentor and guide other members of a project team.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to effectively present ideas and lead design conversations with clients, project teams, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, responsibilities, and priorities concurrently while working collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • NCIDQ certification is strongly preferred for interior design professionals but not required. Applicable professional licensure or certification based on the individual’s discipline is also encouraged.
  • LEED and/or WELL accreditation is preferred but not required.

If you’re a creative thinker who loves developing big ideas, collaborating with talented people, and seeing a design vision come to life, we’d love to hear from you. At INTEC, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility while being part of a collaborative team that takes its work seriously—but doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Qualified and interested candidates should submit a resume and portfolio or relevant work samples to be considered. Candidates must currently reside in the DMV area or be in the process of relocating to the region.
