Project Interior Designer - Commercial Design

INTEC Group, Inc.
Chantilly, VA Full Time
POSTED ON 10/24/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/15/2027

At INTEC Group, we’re about two things: people and design—and more specifically, how design impacts people. How they work, how they connect, and how they find fulfillment. We believe design has the power to enhance the human condition, and we’re passionate about doing just that.

Your Role

As a Project Designer at INTEC Group, you’ve built a strong foundation in commercial interior design—and you’re ready to take the next step. You’re a creative thinker and hands-on designer who enjoys developing ideas, solving problems, and seeing a project evolve from early concept through construction.

Working collaboratively with Project Managers, Senior Project Designers, and other members of the project team, you’ll help develop thoughtful design solutions that respond to each client’s goals, brand, and unique needs. From space planning and conceptual sketches to finish selections, renderings, furniture, and construction documents, you’ll be actively involved throughout the design process.

At INTEC, we believe the best designers are well-rounded designers. Rather than being pigeonholed into one phase or aspect of a project, you’ll have opportunities to contribute across the entire project lifecycle, building both your creative and technical expertise while helping us create spaces that enhance the human experience.

This hybrid position requires at least three (3) days in the office each week and offers the flexibility to balance focused work and in-person collaboration in a way that works for you. While the schedule may shift based on project needs, our ideal candidate is local to the DMV area or actively relocating. Candidates seeking a fully remote opportunity will not be considered.

As an interiors Project Designer on the INTEC Group team, you will:

  • Contribute to the design and production of a variety of commercial interior projects, from early visioning and space planning through documentation and construction completion.
  • Participate in project programming, visioning, space planning, and conceptual design, helping translate client goals and project requirements into thoughtful, creative design solutions.
  • Conduct site observations and field verification to document existing conditions and support the development of accurate project drawings and models.
  • Utilize hand sketches, Revit, 3D modeling, renderings, material studies, and other visualization tools to explore and effectively communicate design ideas.
  • Develop compelling design presentations and actively participate in client meetings, presentations, and working sessions.
  • Research, recommend, select, and specify finishes, materials, fixtures, and other design elements that support the overall design concept and project requirements.
  • Be actively involved in fitments (INTEC’s approach to FF&E) including the selection and specification of furniture, artwork, accessories, and other elements that support a cohesive design experience; coordinate with vendors and manufacturers, prepare presentations, and assist with budgetary pricing.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents including plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, details, finish plans, schedules, specifications, and other documentation necessary to communicate the design intent.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with consulting engineers, specialty consultants, vendors, manufacturers, and other project partners throughout the design and documentation process.
  • Assist with permit applications, building information forms, and other jurisdictional documentation following completion of the construction documents phase.
  • Participate in construction administration activities including submittal and shop drawing reviews, RFIs, field observations, punch list walk-throughs, and project meetings.
  • Self-manage multiple projects, tasks, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining proactive communication with Project Managers and other project team members.
  • Share your knowledge and experience with interns and junior-level team members while continuing to learn from senior designers and project leadership.
  • Meet with clients and project partners locally and travel domestically, as required.
  • Work hard but play hard as well…actively contributing to office activities, cultural initiatives, design discussions, and learning opportunities.
  • And last, but not least…complete your timesheet daily.

Qualifications needed to be successful in this role include:

  • Professional degree (Master’s or Bachelor’s) in Interior Design or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant professional experience focused on commercial interiors projects. Experience in faith-based, workplace/asset services, life science, and/or retail environments is a plus. This is not an entry-level position.
  • Experience contributing to projects through multiple phases of the design process, from programming and conceptual design through documentation and construction administration.
  • Strong creative and conceptual design skills, with the ability to translate ideas into thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling interior environments.
  • Strong visual communication and graphic presentation skills, with proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and other applicable design and visualization software.
  • Working knowledge of interior design principles, space planning, building codes, accessibility requirements, finish and material specifications, and basic construction methods and techniques.
  • An eye for detail and a willingness to think creatively, explore ideas, solve problems, and take pride in producing high-quality work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with clients, consultants, vendors, and teammates and effectively communicate design ideas.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with the ability to work successfully with project team members across disciplines and experience levels.
  • Ability to self-manage multiple projects, responsibilities, and priorities while meeting established deadlines and communicating proactively with project leadership.
  • NCIDQ certification is preferred but not required.
  • LEED and/or WELL accreditation is preferred but not required.

If you’re a creative thinker who loves exploring ideas, solving design challenges, and being hands-on in bringing great spaces to life, we’d love to hear from you. At INTEC, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility while being part of a collaborative team that takes its work seriously—but doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Qualified and interested candidates should submit a resume and portfolio or relevant work samples to be considered. Candidates must currently reside in the DMV area or be in the process of relocating to the region.
