Role Description The Human Resources Generalist at InStride Surfaces will support the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, employee relations, performance processes, and offboarding. This full-time hybrid role is based in Los Angeles, CA, with a combination of in-office and work-from-home days. Daily responsibilities include administering HR policies and procedures, maintaining HR records, coordinating benefits enrollment and changes, and responding to employee inquiries. The role also involves supporting compliance with employment laws, assisting with HR reporting and documentation, and partnering with managers on HR-related issues. The Human Resources Generalist will collaborate across teams to foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture and ensure consistent HR practices.

The Role

The HR Generalist will support the daily human resources operations of the business while managing bi-weekly payroll administration and employee support functions across multiple states.

This role requires someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, trustworthy, and capable of operating in a fast-moving environment where accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality are critical.

Key Responsibilities

HR & People Operations

• Manage onboarding and new hire documentation
• Maintain employee files and HR records
• Assist with recruiting coordination and interview scheduling
• Support employee relations and HR documentation processes
• Help ensure compliance with company policies and multi-state labor law requirements
• Coordinate benefits administration and employee support requests
• Support internal communication and workplace culture initiatives
• Onboarding/Offboarding and risk mitigation
• Unemployment Claims Support & Advisory
• Own HRIS administration and process improvements
• Own employee handbook, company policy (PTO, etc) and rollouts

Payroll Administration

• Process accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll
• Collaborate with Finance to maintain payroll records, employee updates, reimbursements, deductions, commissions, and timekeeping records
• Assist with payroll reporting, reconciliations, and payroll adjustments
• Support payroll audits, reporting, and documentation requests
• Help ensure compliance with wage and labor laws across multiple states as the company continues to expand
• Set-up multi-state withholding, EEOC and documentation standards

• Payroll is processed accurately and consistently without delays
• HR records and employee documentation remain organized and compliant

• Leadership can rely on HR for professionalism, discretion, and operational follow-through

Qualifications

• 3 years of HR, payroll, or people operations experience
• Experience processing bi-weekly payroll required
• Multi-state payroll and labor law experience strongly preferred
• Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems (Rippling experience preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
• Experience supporting fast-growing organizations preferred
