Job Title: Paralegal
Duration: 6 Month Contract
Location: Indianapolis, IN 46204
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour on 1099 all inclusive
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Legal Counsel with Department litigation and related legal matters.
Conduct legal research and prepare affidavits, briefs, pleadings, appeals, and contracts.
Respond to discovery requests and coordinate documentation for subpoenas.
Review and analyze statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, and codes.
Maintain and update legal volumes, files, and records.
Draft legal notices, subpoenas, witness lists, and other documents.
Compile and prepare responses to production, admission, and interrogatory requests.
Process public records requests, expungement orders, and attendance records.
Serve as a liaison between the Department, the Attorney General’s Office, and the legislature.
Register legal staff for Continuing Legal Education and track training hours.
Support interview committees and perform administrative tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Must meet one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 hours in law or paralegal studies.
Bachelor’s degree plus a paralegal certificate or two years of paralegal experience.
Associate’s degree in paralegal studies (with certification) and two years of legal experience.
Certification in paralegal studies plus two years of paralegal experience.
Current PACE, Paralegal CORE Competency, or CLA/CP certification in good standing.
Basic knowledge of LexisNexis and Westlaw preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher).
Required Skills and Abilities:

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Strong organization, research, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience using LexisNexis or Westlaw.
Certification or degree in paralegal studies.
Experience developing legal procedures or departmental programs.
