Position Overview
seeking a Communication Specialist to support statewide maternal health initiatives through strategic communications, content development, community engagement, and graphic design. This role is responsible for creating clear, engaging, and culturally relevant communications that promote positive health outcomes across Tennessee.
The ideal candidate will possess strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills, with experience developing content for digital and print platforms. This position requires collaboration with internal teams, healthcare professionals, and community partners to effectively communicate public health programs and initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesContent Development & Communications
- Develop and manage content for websites, newsletters, social media, reports, and print materials.
- Translate complex public health information into clear and engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Create visually compelling communication materials using Canva and other design tools.
- Produce and distribute monthly newsletters using My Emma or similar email marketing platforms.
- Track engagement metrics and prepare quarterly communication performance reports.
- Ensure communications materials comply with ADA, WCAG 2.2 AA, and Section 508 accessibility standards.
- Edit and revise content to maintain accuracy, consistency, and brand standards.
Community Engagement & Collaboration
- Support outreach and communication efforts for the Maternal Health Task Force and partner organizations.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders.
- Assist with public health awareness campaigns and community education initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
- Contribute creative ideas to enhance public health messaging and engagement efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field; equivalent professional portfolio experience may be considered.
- 2–5 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, nonprofit, government, or public health environments.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling abilities.
- Proficiency with Canva and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
- Experience using My Emma or similar email marketing platforms.
- Experience tracking and reporting communication metrics and engagement data.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a remote work environment.
- Strong collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public health, healthcare, nonprofit, or government communications.
- Knowledge of digital accessibility standards, including WCAG and Section 508 compliance.
- Understanding of culturally responsive and inclusive health communications.
- Experience creating both written and graphic communication materials.
