We are seeking a skilled Optical Test Engineer to support a Display Systems Engineering team in Redmond, WA. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in optical testing, display calibration, optical metrology, and data-driven hardware validation.
The selected candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and execute optical test procedures, analyze performance data, debug optical prototypes, and support product-oriented hardware development in a fast-paced lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, execute, and document optical test and calibration procedures for display hardware, optical modules, and optical components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test requirements, calibration methods, and product quality standards.
- Analyze optical test data, troubleshoot issues, and provide actionable feedback to design, manufacturing, and engineering teams.
- Maintain, calibrate, and operate optical test equipment while following laboratory safety standards.
- Automate test sequences, data collection, analysis workflows, and image processing tasks.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to internal stakeholders.
- Support hands-on debugging of optical prototypes, test sequences, and electronics in a product-focused lab environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Optics, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in optical testing, optical measurement, and optical analysis within a hardware engineering environment.
- Hands-on experience with optical test equipment such as spectroradiometers, photometers, colorimeters, autocollimators, or similar tools.
- Programming experience with Python, C#, C , or similar languages for test automation, data collection, image processing, and analysis.
- Experience performing statistical data analysis from large datasets; JMP experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with display hardware, electronics manufacturing, hardware build cycles, or product development environments.
- Ability to debug test sequences, optical prototypes, and electronics.
- Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of color science, display calibration, and calibration/control algorithms.
- Experience working with AR/VR display systems, optical modules, or near-eye display technologies.
- Experience with optical design or simulation tools such as Zemax or LightTools.
- Experience with opto-mechanical design tools such as Ansys, SolidWorks, or NX.
- Experience with statistical analysis, machine learning, or advanced data analysis.
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools or applying AI methods in research or engineering workflows.
