Job Summary: Testing Analyst

Inspired Energy is an industry leading manufacturer of Smart batteries and Smart Battery products with the primary focus on design and manufacture of World Class Rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries and chargers for Global distribution.

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist in Compliance Testing for Lithium-Ion batteries and chargers.

Working hours: 8:00a – 5:00p Monday-Friday or other hours as agreed to by Manager. Position is salary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· None currently.

Potential Job Hazards:

This position’s responsibilities entail performing the day-to-day functions of a Testing Laboratory where new designs are tested at their limits, potentially with first-level safeties bi-passed. Therefore, there is an inherent risk of being exposed to battery pack, charger, and other device faults, failures and hazardous events that could pose a safety threat if the required safety precautions are not followed. Prior to the candidate beginning official work in the test lab, the candidate will undergo in-house safety training tailored for the Test Lab.

Because this position is responsible for testing front line battery pack and charger designs at their limits, in addition to performing other requested departmental (Engineering and Quality) testing on possibly faulty product, this position may be exposed to the following hazards:

· Li-Ion battery fire

· Li-Ion thermal runaway

· Li-Ion cell venting event

· PCBA component faults, burnouts, and fires

· Mechanical hazards (pinch points, vibration testing, impact testing, heavy equipment)

· High Voltage (75VDC, 480VAC 3ph)

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Coordinates and performs regulatory testing on products and components prior to their release to manufacturing. A rough breakdown of time (%) per category:

o Specifically, conducts all testing required of Inspired Energy products per international test specifications: UN38.3 and IEC62133-2, plus any additional testing we add in the future.

o 50% of the job will be conducting UN38.3 and IEC61233-2 testing on Inspired Energy products and coordinating with IE’s Compliance group.

o 20% of the job will be implementing the IEC62133-2 processes ( - achieved, 2nd carrying out IEC62133-2 testing as a CTF and maintaining Stage 3, possibly vetting/working towards Stage 4.

o 10% of the job will be managing the equipment, calibrations, and assisting with Quality and Engineering-related testing as requested by those departments.

o 10% assisting other departments (Operations, Quality, and Engineering) with product testing, Quality auditing, or other duties as needed.

· Oversee and carry out day-to-day operations of the Inspired Energy test lab that typically include:

o Maintain safety standards of the lab.

o Keep all equipment functional and in working order w/ the support of IE’s Maintenance department (notify maintenance/bring in external support as needed when equipment goes down in a timely manner, managing completion dates and quality)

o Keeps all calibrations current per ISO17025 calibration standard.

o Ensure products are tested in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.

· Draft proposals for testing programs and operating procedures in the testing laboratory, while researching, gathering, and outlining test conditions to be applied.

  • Work with internal resources to understand and assist in ensuring company compliance with local, national, and international regulatory guidelines. Communicate with product management and product development teams to ensure alignment.

· Study the data gathered during testing and evaluate the validity of the results.

· Draft technical reports to present findings; based on findings, recommend modifications needed to correct manufacturing or design issues Gather and study information regarding certain materials and components to be used in production.

· Comfortable working in an isolated (laboratory) environment for a large portion of each day.

· Test new products and develop systems to gather digital data during testing.

  • Maintain current understanding of ever-changing global regulations and standards through subscriptions and monitoring; communicate any proposed and impending changes to your Supervisor to ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance is maintained.
  • Represent the business in global standards organizations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Basic knowledge of electrical characteristics (mainly DC), properties, and relationships (V=I*R, current, voltage, resistance, ability to size wire gauge/resistors/wiring harnesses based on power/wattage)

· Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn/perform minor mechanical work (torquing fasteners down to proper torque value, rig mechanical tests)

· Must be a self-starter, able to manage one’s self for extended timelines and long-term projects, have initiative, and willing to always keep a teamwork mentality.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to discuss product flaws in an effective, constructive, and positive manner.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Seminole fan.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail as most testing is time sensitive which requires proper scheduling and documentation.

· Familiar with or able to quickly grasp global compliance standards for Lithium-Ion batteries and chargers.

· Domestic travel may be required.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software to prepare test reports and proposals.

· Computer skills to include various computer programs related to manufacturing and accounting systems. Proficient in Excel

· Familiar with Smart Battery test systems and laboratory equipment

Education and Experience:

· Two years of related experience required.

· Three years of electronics testing or assembly experience required.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

· Must be able to traverse production facility and stairs.

All post-secondary education listed on a Candidate’s application and resume must be verifiable, including but not limited to dates of attendance and degree/diploma awarded. Post-secondary education includes any courses taken through an accredited college or university in pursuit of a degree.
