Position Summary: The Workplace Learning Specialist Teacher is an Indiana state-certified educator responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and instructing work-based learning (WBL) experiences, internships, and career-readiness initiatives in an online environment. Instead of traditional classroom lecture delivery, this specialist manages the bridge between academic instruction and real-world employment. The teacher provides instruction on professional skills, fosters relationships with employer partners across Indiana, monitors student progress at external work sites, and guides students through their post-secondary preparation using specialized virtual tools.

Instructional/Curricular
Effectively apply working knowledge of the Indiana Work-Based Learning framework, K12 career readiness curriculum, and Online School platforms.
Develop and deliver synchronous and asynchronous instruction focusing on employability skills, workplace professional expectations, resume building, and interview preparation.
Support students and parents with workplace placement logistics, training plans, and compliance setup.
Develop effective instructional tools and digital portfolios to supplement and enhance the career development experience.
Coordination & Partnership Management
Cultivate and maintain meaningful partnerships with Indiana businesses, industries, and community organizations to secure virtual and regional workplace learning opportunities for students.
Collaborate with employer mentors to establish student learning objectives and track performance metrics at their work sites.
Work actively with students and parents to develop and monitor a comprehensive plan for post-secondary success via online tools like Career Builder and Career Cruising.
Communication
Contact students regularly via email, phone, or virtual meetings to provide coaching on workplace experiences and track assignment milestones.
Respond within an appropriate timeframe (usually one business day) to student, parent, and employer inquiries.
Participate in weekly teacher conference calls with the Academic Administrator and attend regularly scheduled face-to-face and virtual staff meetings.
Records Management & Compliance
Develop, verify, and maintain student academic progress logs, legal work hour tracking, and training agreements in compliance with Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) standards.
Develop and maintain a process for tracking and entering student work hours into InTERs
Generate formal reports on student performance and site evaluations.
Alert administrators of any concerns regarding student progress, attendance, or safety issues at a workplace environment.
Community & Assessment
Organize orientations, career fairs, employer panels, and educational activities for students, families, and business partners.
Work with administration to ensure workplace experiences support state graduation pathways and employability credentials.
Serve as a proctor for site-based proctored exams and state assessments as required per school policy.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree AND
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience within a virtual setting OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses: Active Indiana State teaching certification. Hold or be eligible for an Indiana Workplace Specialist license or a Work-Based Learning endorsement.
Other Required Qualifications
A shared view of the virtual academy’s mission and vision.
Strong knowledge of Indiana’s career pathways, labor market trends, and employability skills standards.
An ability to support and guide adults (employers and parents) as well as students.
Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and time-management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based databases.
Ability to travel 25% of the time across assigned geographic areas to support student placements and partner sites.
Ability to pass a required background check.
Desired Qualifications
Experience overseeing student internships, cooperative education programs, or CTSOs (e.g., SkillsUSA).
Experience working with student information systems
