The Fabrication Shop Manager oversees the daily operations of the metal fabrication shop which includes purchasing parts and materials, ensuring projects are aligned with defined project budgets, deadlines, quality control, and safety compliance. The Manager will be responsible for supervising the fabrication shop employees and engage in project fabrication activities when not performing other administrative duties. This role requires strong technical knowledge of fabrication processes, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage personnel and resources effectively.
Responsibilities:
Ensures fabrication projects are aligned with defined project budgets, deadlines, quality control, and safety compliance.
Assigns work orders to fabrication shop employees.
Communicates the work schedule to the customer as required.
Purchases parts and materials needed for planned projects. Purchases/maintains shop supplies and stock materials.
Welding, metal fabrication, rigging, lifting of heavy dangerous objects in a safe manner, use of forklifts, use of scissors lifts, use of cutting equipment, torch, plasma saw, assembly and painting of projects as well as general repair and maintenance of shop equipment.
Diagnoses cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
Directly supports manufacturing operations in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.
Move parts and heavy frames on and off machinery and throughout the facility.
Fabricates various structural equipment from blueprints and work orders.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
The Fabrication Shop Manager will have a high school diploma or GED or diploma from a technical school and hands on experience in welding (MIG, TIG, Stick) and troubleshooting, utility construction experience and mechanical experience; five to ten years of prior Fabrication shop management/fabrication experience is required. Must possess a working knowledge of fabrication methods and equipment to include: CNC-milling machines various saws, portaband, vertical & horizontal bands, lathe, milling & drilling machines, metal shear, metal lathe, sanders/grinders, power punch press, hand & power benders, rolling machine, hand brake and various power hand tools, drills, etc. Proven knowledge of the American Welding Society welding symbols and codes.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze interpret and understand and follow blueprints and fabrication drawings. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to listen and comprehend instructions accurately.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Skills:
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to use independent judgment and initiative to complete projects on a timely and safe basis.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to read blueprints and fabricate parts and machinery and be attentive to detail. Must have forklift operator’s license.
