The Interventional Radiology Tech Will:
- Perform IR procedures with minimal assistance which requires knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology so that independent selection or modification of technical factors will produce optimum results.
- Position and transfer of patients on/off scan table, utilize immobilization devices as necessary.
- Provides training to new staff and completes required competencies.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness within the department adhering to Joint Commission, IDPH, and Infection Control.
- Provide On-Call coverage as needed.
- Able to proficiently navigate RIS, PACS, and EMR
- Verify all performed exams on PACS.
- Capture pertinent documentation for each patient as required by the department.
- Responsible for reporting equipment failure to the supervisor and making the initial call for service.
- Attend departmental staff meetings.
- Utilize the department’s resources to enhance your technical abilities.
- Adhere to all HIPPA regulations concerning patient privacy.
- Screen patients according to departmental policies and current safety standards. Must use two patient identifiers to identify patients as required by hospital policy before starting and procedure. Effectively and thoroughly access patients needed for IR safety.
- Complete any incomplete work list items at the end of the shift and perform the appropriate follow-up and/or communications for complete reconciliation.
- Capture the correct technical charges for each exam performed.
- Work as a team member to maintain an “on time” patient schedule.
- Effectively communicate with coworkers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Complete Net Learning within the appropriate time frame.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A High School diploma is required. Satisfactory completion of an American Medical Association Council on Medical Education approved School of Radiologic Technology is required. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology preferred. Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety required.
- Extreme accuracy and care are needed to determine exposure time and correct positioning of the patient.
- Ability to deal effectively with patients, physicians, hospital personnel, and co-workers. Ability to effectively position patients for the best results and to adapt techniques for each patient. Extreme accuracy and care is needed to determine exposure time and correct positioning. Must be able to work cooperatively with others and also be able to work under pressure at times. Must be able to remain alert to technical developments and be willing to adapt to them.
