Emergency Department Clerk
Shift: Days, 7a - 7p
Schedule: Full-Time
Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the RN and ultimately to the Nurse Manager, performs the secretarial duties in the Emergency Department while functioning as the focal communications source in the nursing station.
Duties:
Performs communication and coordination duties related to admission, discharge, transfer, and death of patient in the Emergency Department. Collects data, photocopies information, answers telephone, takes messages, directs calls, and enters information into the computer. Needs to perform with a high degree of accuracy.
Able to operate and trouble shoot issues of basic office equipment
Picks up and delivers specimens, documents, and other items. Supports department during crisis by functioning as a liaison with other departments and the public.
Prepares and maintains patient records according to standards/policy. This includes the collection of patient data.
Ensures adequate stock of office supplies and keeps the work area organized.
Must be able to show compassion and empathy for coworkers, patients, and families.
Possess strong customer service skills
Performs any other job-related duties as indicated.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak the English Language. Must have excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette. Ability to perform basic math. Ability to work on the computer with strong data entry skills. Ability to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas. Ability to function quickly in stressful situations.
Certifications: BCLS
Physical Requirements:
Frequent prolonged standing/sitting. Must be able to see, hear, and move fluidly.
OSHA Exposure Classification:
Risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
