POSITION SUMMARY
The Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents to appointments, outings, and other activities, ensuring a comfortable and secure travel experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but are not limited to the following:
- Transport residents to and from medical appointments, social outings, and other activities.
- Assist residents with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, including handling wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility aids.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of residents during transport by adhering to all traffic laws and driving best practices.
- Maintain communication with facility staff to coordinate schedules and route planning effectively.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and report any issues or needed repairs.
- Keep a log of vehicle usage and maintain records of resident transport details.
- Provide occasional support for other facility activities as needed.
- Supervisory Responsibility: No.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education & Experience:
- Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous professional driving experience, ideally in a role involving the transportation of passengers.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Understanding of local traffic laws and navigation routes.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures specific to transporting elderly or mobility-impaired individuals.
- Proficient in safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.
- Effective communication skills to interact with residents, staff, and the public.
- Ability to organize and manage time to adhere to schedules and route plans.
- Skilled in operating and maintaining various types of vehicles, including those equipped with lifts and ramps for wheelchair access.
- Ability to physically assist residents into and out of the vehicle, including managing wheelchairs, walkers, and other aids.
- Capable of responding calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain patience and professionalism when working with residents who may have special needs or disabilities.
- Able to work independently and make decisions on the road regarding route changes or unexpected delays.
