Position: Project Manager
Location: Roanoke, VA or Charleston, WV(Onsite – 5 days/week)
Pay Rate: $30-50/hr, OT Eligible, Benefits (eligible day 1)
Travel: ~25% (typically one week/month)
Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support a special long-term Joint Venture (JV) project. This is an onsite role supporting major utility and construction initiatives across West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.
Must Haves
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, project management, or related field of study with 3 years qualified experience, OR two-year Associate's degree in the same disciplines with 5 years of qualified experience.
- Local to Roanoke, VA (within a 50-mile radius)
- Valid state driver’s license
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across multiple organizational levels
- Knowledge of P6 and PMBOK
Plusses
- PMP Certification
- Experience supporting long-duration, large-scale construction projects
- Utility or power systems background
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Manage or assist in managing base, intermediate, and complex projects in a matrixed environment
- Lead project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout activities
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within cost and schedule targets
- Provide clear project transparency and regular status reporting to stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and external partners
- Support and enforce the System Safety Process with a Zero Harm mindset
- Assist with procurement planning, RFP development, vendor selection, and contract management
- Participate in project closeout activities, including performance and benefit analysis
Qualified Experience May Include:
- Outage management
- Major construction field experience
- Project estimating, controls, and engineering
- Business administration
- Experience in utilities or power systems
- Knowledge of construction safety, negotiations, scope control, cost estimating, contracting, project reporting, and quality control
Additional Requirements
- Ability to progressively take on Lead PM responsibilities based on performance and development
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and meeting facilitation skills
- Strong business acumen with an emphasis on cost, schedule, and risk management
- Working knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracting, estimating, construction, and startup processes
- Ability to assess risk, think strategically, and prioritize project activities
- Willingness to take independent action and appropriately escalate issues
- Travel typically 25%, with flexibility for additional travel if required
