Job Description
A large utility company is seeking a Transmission Line Project Engineer who will support the engineering and design of complex electrical transmission line projects. This role resolves moderately complex technical challenges, develops functional designs, and ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and technical standards. The engineer works independently under general direction while partnering closely with project managers, construction teams, and internal and external stakeholders to deliver high quality engineering solutions. The position also involves participating in site walkdowns, reviewing designs, and supporting emergency response efforts when needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform engineering analyses, studies, and conceptual designs
• Prepare and present technical findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors
• Conduct site walkdowns and support design review meetings
• Develop technical documents including design criteria, specifications, and engineering reports
• Evaluate and recommend alternative project proposals
• Prepare and review contracts and consultant proposals for technical compliance
• Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, and regulations
• Assist with root cause analysis and develop restoration plans
• Approve reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings
• Support emergency response efforts for substation or facility failures
• Represent PG&E in interactions with government agencies when required
Required Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited U.S. program or equivalent international program.
• Minimum of three years of cumulative engineering and design experience.
• Strong understanding of project team roles and responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision to meet project commitments.
• Skilled in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficient in interpreting and applying codes, standards, and regulations.
• Capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Demonstrates sound judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
• Provides thorough analysis and justification for recommendations.
• Takes ownership of issues and drives solutions.
Desired Qualifications
• Active California PE license
