A leading consumer packaged goods organization is seeking a Toxicologist to support product safety and regulatory compliance across the full product lifecycle. This role partners closely with R&D, formulation scientists, and clinical teams to ensure ingredients and finished products meet internal and external safety standards.
Overview / Job Description
The Toxicologist will operate in a highly independent capacity to evaluate raw materials, ingredients, and formulations. This role is responsible for conducting safety assessments, supporting safety releases for human testing and product launches, and ensuring compliance with relevant cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and OTC drug guidelines.
This individual will play a key role in both new product development (NPD) and lifecycle management (LCM) by identifying and mitigating toxicological risks, including regulatory considerations such as Prop 65. The position requires strong collaboration with cross-functional partners and the ability to navigate internal systems to review and approve materials and products.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct safety assessments for ingredients, raw materials, and finished formulations
- Review and approve safety data within internal systems for product development and commercialization
- Support safety releases for clinical testing and product launches
- Evaluate toxicological risks, including regulatory considerations (e.g., Prop 65)
- Collaborate with R&D, formulation, and clinical teams on product safety strategy
- Ensure compliance with cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and OTC safety regulations
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ingredient safety data and regulatory changes
- Provide guidance on formulation decisions to ensure safe and compliant product development
- Support substantiation requirements outside of formal FDA submission processes
Required Skills
- Master’s Degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
- Industry experience in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or OTC product safety
- Proficiency with safety assessment methodologies and completion of safety releases
- Strong understanding of global safety regulations and compliance standards
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple product evaluations
- Willingness to travel as needed
Plusses
- DABT (Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology), ERT, or similar certification
- Experience in the cosmetic or consumer products industry
