System Engineer

Our federal client is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support mission-critical IT operations and engineering initiatives in Norfolk, VA. This individual will provide technical leadership across complex infrastructure and systems projects, helping maintain, modernize, and deploy enterprise IT capabilities supporting a global command environment.

The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of systems engineering expertise, project leadership experience, and the ability to drive technical initiatives through all phases of the system development lifecycle. This role requires someone who can succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while collaborating across technical teams and stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering efforts to maintain, enhance, test, deploy, and support enterprise IT capabilities aligned with organizational priorities and emerging mission requirements.
• Provide technical leadership for complex systems engineering projects, ensuring successful execution within established scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
• Oversee all phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, system design, development, integration, testing, implementation, and sustainment.
• Perform requirements analysis, functional analysis, system design, developmental testing, and operational testing activities.
• Coordinate and lead technical reviews, design discussions, and engineering assessments.
• Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, issues, and action items while driving projects to successful completion.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams through changing priorities and evolving technical requirements.
• Ensure engineering solutions comply with organizational standards, policies, security requirements, and customer expectations.
• Support system modernization and infrastructure initiatives, including virtualization and enterprise systems enhancements.
• Maintain a strong commitment to quality, mission success, and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

• Active Secret Security Clearance.
• Bachelor's degree and 10 years of relevant Systems Engineering or IT Infrastructure experience, OR Master's degree with equivalent experience.
• Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification.
• Experience supporting virtualized environments utilizing Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Proven experience leading large-scale IT engineering initiatives and technical teams.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, infrastructure design, integration, and testing methodologies.
• Experience managing projects through the full SDLC.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or other federal government environments.
• Experience with enterprise infrastructure modernization efforts.
• Background supporting mission-critical systems in highly secure environments.
