SUMMARY
A leading high growth technology and manufacturing organization in North Scottsdale is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team! This is a highly senior, hands‑on mechanical design role for engineers who have owned consumer electronic products from early architecture through high‑volume production. The engineer will serve as the mechanical authority for complex electromechanical systems, leading design execution, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing readiness for products shipped at large scale.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own mechanical design execution end‑to‑end for high‑volume consumer electronics, from early concept and architecture definition through manufacturing release and ramp.
- Lead subsystem and system‑level mechanical architecture, including enclosure strategy, structural layout, thermal paths, mounting schemes, and serviceability considerations.
- Design, build, and evaluate high‑fidelity prototypes using both rapid and production‑intent methods to validate fit, function, durability, and performance.
- Plan and execute comprehensive prototype testing, including fit‑and‑function validation, drop and shock testing, vibration, thermal, ingress, and abuse testing.
- Perform detailed mechanical analysis, including FEA, tolerance stack‑ups, and empirical testing, and iterate designs based on real test data.
- Drive build readiness through EVT/DVT/PVT, supporting build events, failure analysis, root‑cause investigations, and corrective actions under aggressive timelines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10–12 years of mechanical design experience exclusively within consumer electronics environments.
- Expert‑level proficiency in PTC Creo for complex, production‑intent CAD and large assemblies.
- Extensive experience designing plastic injection‑molded parts, stamped and formed metals, die‑cast components, and machined structures for high‑volume manufacturing.
- Experience architecting and integrating mechanical systems around PCBAs, rigid‑flex and flex circuits, cameras, sensors, antennas, connectors, batteries, and displays.
- Proven track record of taking products from concept through EVT/DVT/PVT and into sustained production at scale.
- Strong command of DFM, DFA, and DFT for high‑yield, cost‑sensitive manufacturing.
- Hands‑on experience designing IP‑rated, environmentally sealed consumer devices, including gasket design, adhesives, venting, and sealing strategies.
- Expertise in FEA, GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups, and variation analysis in real production environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
**Strong preference for experience at leading consumer electronics companies, such as:
- Apple, Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, Xiaomi
