Job Summary

Cornerstone Mortgage Group is seeking an experienced Post Closing / Quality Control Underwriter to support post-funding loan reviews and investor compliance efforts. This role is a key part of the quality control and risk management process, ensuring loans meet investor guidelines prior to sale or servicing. The ideal candidate has strong non-QM experience, deep knowledge of investor guidelines, and is comfortable working through post-close deficiencies and rebuttals.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess Audit Deficiency Reports provided by investors to identify underwriting and compliance issues
• Analyze post-closing loan files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to investor guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc.)
• Collaborate with internal teams (Underwriting, Processing, Compliance) and external investors to resolve identified defects
• Recommend and negotiate alternative resolutions with investors, including indemnification agreements when applicable
• Implement corrective actions such as obtaining missing documentation, correcting forms, or securing updated third-party verifications
• Prepare and submit appeals and rebuttals to repurchase demands, providing detailed documentation and justification
• Support overall post-close quality control and risk mitigation initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–10 years of mortgage underwriting experience
• Proven experience as a Post Close, QC, Loss Mitigation, or Investor Underwriter
• Strong background reviewing non-QM loan files
• In-depth knowledge of investor guidelines and post-closing requirements
• Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience handling loan repurchase scenarios
• Strong working knowledge of Encompass LOS
