Job Title: Mainframe DB2 DBA (z/OS)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Duration: 12 months
Pay rate: $52/ HR
Must-Haves:
- 7–9 years of Mainframe DB2 DBA (DB2 on z/OS) experience within a large financial institution
- Strong expertise in DB2 performance tuning and optimization
- Hands-on experience with DB2 Utilities (IBM & BMC)
- Working knowledge of BMC tools (Change Manager, Catalog Manager, MainView, SQL Performance tools)
- Deep understanding of DB2 recovery strategies and options
- Strong knowledge of ACF2 & RACF security models for DB2 access
- Experience working with Endevor
- Familiarity with ITSM tools/processes (BMC Remedy)
- In-depth technical knowledge of DB2 z/OS, JCL, COBOL, SQL
- Proven experience supporting production environments and on-call rotations
Plusses:
- Experience with SMF data analysis and reporting
- Knowledge of Splunk dashboards and monitoring
- Familiarity with Python scripting
Day-to-Day:
- Develop log scraping strategies to optimize CPU, memory, and storage usage
- Build and maintain Splunk dashboards to monitor DB2 environments
- Define and implement log retention policies
- Translate business requirements into DB2 physical data models
- Partner with application teams on database security (ACF2/RACF)
- Design and implement backup and recovery strategies for production
- Support DB2 replication upgrades, remediation, and feature evaluations
- Perform performance tuning and optimize database queries
- Monitor and resolve issues identified in exception reports
- Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and SEV1 incident support
- Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions with application teams
- Support audits, SOX compliance, and control assessments
