Position: CMDB Administrator/Developer
Location: Hybrid in Millcreek, UT (on-site Monday-Thursday)
Structure: ~1-2 month contract-to-hire
Overview: One of Insight Global’s higher education clients is seeking a CMDB Administrator/Developer to support the expansion, optimization, and long‑term stability of their enterprise CMDB. This individual will focus heavily on Discovery, Identification & Reconciliation Engine (IRE) development, and Service Mapping, enabling the team to build and refine CMDB functionality without relying on the central ServiceNow admin group.
Day‑to‑Day:
- Develop, enhance, and maintain CMDB functionality within ServiceNow, with a primary focus on Discovery, IRE, and Service Mapping
- Build and refine identification rules, reconciliation logic, and CI class models to ensure accurate, reliable data
- Configure and optimize Discovery schedules, probes, patterns, and credentials
- Implement and maintain Service Mapping to improve visibility into application and infrastructure dependencies
- Troubleshoot data quality issues, CI conflicts, duplicate records, and mapping inconsistencies
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure correct assignment group alignment across ~120 groups tied to WGU’s org ID structure
- Support integrations with monitoring and ITSM tools such as Dynatrace and xMatters
- Serve as the senior technical anchor for a rebuilding CMDB team, providing guidance and structure as processes evolve
Must‑haves:
- Strong hands‑on experience with ServiceNow Discovery development
- Deep understanding of the Identification & Reconciliation Engine (IRE), including rule creation and troubleshooting
- Experience with Service Mapping, including pattern customization and dependency mapping
- Ability to build and tune CMDB structures, CI classes, and data models in large‑scale environments
- Experience working directly within the CMDB module
- Strong troubleshooting skills across CI data quality, Discovery behavior, and mapping logic
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work in a rapidly rebuilding team
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
Plusses:
- Experience with AI‑driven features or automation within ServiceNow
- Experience working in higher‑education or large distributed enterprise environments
- Familiarity with xMatters or similar ITSM/alerting tools
