The Tutor-Mentor Counselor serves as a vital member of the Upward Bound program, contributing to a supportive and structured environment where students are encouraged to thrive academically and socially. Living alongside participants throughout the duration of the six-week program, the successful candidate will help cultivate a strong sense of community grounded in respect, accountability, and shared success. This role blends mentorship, academic support, and leadership, providing students with guidance that extends beyond the classroom and into all aspects of their residential experience.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for working with high school students and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity in all its forms. This position requires full-time residential engagement for the duration of the summer program and reports to the Upward Bound Director. Qualifications
Candidates must be current university students in good academic standing. Demonstrated experience working with high school students, along with a strong commitment to mentorship and student development, is highly desirable. Applicants should exhibit maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain professionalism in a residential, fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Candidates must demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm, and a consistent, positive temperament. The ability to commit fully to the six-week residential program and work within a 24/7 team-oriented setting is required.
