What are the responsibilities and job description for the Success Coach/Tutor position at Inside Higher Ed?
SMC STUDENT POSITION: The role of the Success Coach/Tutor is to aid fellow students in understanding course-related concepts and appropriate study skills for specific courses. The peer tutor will provide academic support while honoring the college’s academic integrity policy. This position requires the individual to be an example academically and professionally for their peers. Tutors will work no more than 10 hours per week, and their schedule will be built around their course schedule. This is a federal work-study position unless otherwise indicated. Training will be mandatory, and tutors are eligible to receive an assessment from the Director of Student Success and the students they work with to ensure a proper understanding of the role. This position is offered for current enrolled SMC students only.

- Attend tutor training and development sessions.
- Attend campus events promoting tutoring services.
- Provide individual and group tutoring.
- Review of class material.
- Review test questions.
- Brainstorming ideas for projects and papers - to be led by the student seeking tutoring.
- Teaching effective learning and study strategies for individual courses.
- Adapt tutoring sessions to fit the needs of each individual student.
- Maintain records of tutoring sessions.
- Make referrals to campus resources when necessary.
