Position OverviewKU’s Wingspan: Center for Learning and Writing Support offers a portfolio of collaborative, innovative academic support programs and services to students, faculty, and staff. Wingspan provides individual and group support through its Peer Academic Coaching program, Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, Learning and Tutoring Services, and Writing Center Services. The Wingspan is a part of the University Academic Support Centers (UASC), a comprehensive student support program consisting of two unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the University’s commitment to academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom, support academic and personal development, and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Affairs.
Our Peer Academic Coaches will offer in-person and online academic coaching appointments and facilitate accountability sessions to empower students at the University of Kansas. Conversations are focused on building better study skills, consistent life habits, and connecting to resources on campus.

- Depending on availability, a peer coach may be embedded in First Year Seminar courses to support faculty members (attending one lecture per week, facilitating activities and presentations related to student success, helping connect enrolled students with resources, etc.).
- Connect and refer students to other campus resources.
- Create a safe environment for peer coaching.
- Facilitate accountability sessions (body doubling) to peers.
- Support students in preparing for upcoming exams or projects through building good study skills and techniques.
- Attend and participate in regular peer coaching training, team meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Support program enhancement efforts through resource development and continuous improvement projects. Support program outreach efforts through tabling at events, class visits, facilitating workshops, emailing, making flyers, etc
- Be a University of Kansas undergraduate student enrolled in at least 6 hours.
- Be in good academic standing
- Previous experience working with students, faculty and staff, as demonstrated in application materials
- Previous experience working with a variety of students with various needs, interests and abilities
- Previous work experience in an environment that demonstrated learning, growth and fostered a sense of community amongst their peers
- Previous work experience that utilized organizational skills and the ability to be a role model
- Previous experience which required working independently and with a team
- Coaching, mentoring, or teaching experience.
- Exhibit empathy, responsibility, positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, team orientation, strong energy levels, and excellent communication skills.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.Additional Candidate InstructionsIn addition to the online application, the following documents are required to be considered for this position:
