Nature & Purpose Of Position
A VBP Student Worker will be responsible for:
- Assisting VA and/or Hazlewood beneficiaries with any claims or issues
- Distribute information about VA and/or Hazlewood programs and educational benefits
- Help Veterans and their beneficiaries with questions about benefits
- Assist with processing required documentation for their benefits
- Help maintain and organize files regarding military educational benefits
- Student workers will provide excellent customer service to current, future, and potential students who may or may not be using a military educational benefit both in person and by phone
- General office tasks such as scanning, shredding, auditing certifications, and indexing required documentation for students’ military educational benefits
- Communicate with the Veteran and/or dependent in a positive, patient, problem-solving, and optimistic manner
- Refers Veteran and their beneficiaries to campus partner resources (e.g. VRE, VRC, Vet Center Outreach coordinator)
- Helps to establish Veteran community on campus in collaboration with Veteran Student Organization through group meetings and outings
- May provide outreach services
- Answering phones
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be using a VA Educational benefit at SHSU
- Pay as of now has to be 7.25/hr because this is a Federal program and the Federal Min. Wage is 7.25/hr
