Nature & Purpose Of Position
The LSC office assistants are expected to reflect a professional image, positive attitude, and assist all students, staff, faculty, and guests in the LSC with superior customer service.Office assistants are expected to:
- Keep track of interactions with SHSU students, staff, and faculty.
- Assist walk-in visitors in a courteous, friendly, and respectful manner, providing all available information and making referrals as necessary.
- Assist telephone callers by properly answering the phone, transferring calls, taking messages, and sharing resources as necessary.
- Assist guests and visitors over email communications in a professional manner.
- Have a comprehensive knowledge of campus offices, departments, and resources.
- Know who is who in the various LSC offices and the general responsibilities of each area.
- Keep informed of all current information, activities, programs, and events in the LSC and on campus.
- Be familiar with information sources such as the SHSU home page, Houstonian newspaper, and SHSU telephone directory.
- Assist the Reservations Coordinator with reservations in EMS as directed.
- Perform general office duties such as typing correspondence, creating reports, maintaining files, ordering supplies, processing payments, sorting mail, and other duties as assigned.
- Process payments by handling cash, checks, and money orders and writing receipts.
- Have a comprehensive knowledge of all LSC forms and the proper way to receive and process requests.
- Assist in keeping the LSC front desk and office kitchen tidy and maintain all information, supplies, and equipment in an orderly manner.
- Adhere to all LSC policies and procedures.
- Know all emergency policies and procedures and to provide support to guests in an emergency.
- Be dependable and punctual in reporting to work and meetings.
- Dress in accordance with the LSC dress code.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
