Job Summary
Oversee daily administrative and research operations of a developmental neurobiology laboratory. Design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of experiments on human and animal model systems. Coordinating the procurement, inventory management of laboratory supplies and materials required for experimental studies and data collection; organizing and maintaining research data; performing data entry and assisting with data analysis; and contributing to the preparation and submission of grant proposals, progress reports, and scientific manuscripts. Ensures compliance with private, federal, and institutional agency regulations, including documentation and reporting requirements. Supervising and coordinating laboratory personnel including graduate students, supporting collaborative research activities, and performing other related duties as assigned to advance the laboratory's research mission.
Job Duties
40% - Essential - Coordinate and manage daily research operations: Oversee the logistical and operational aspects of a neurobiology research project focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), ensuring the lab runs efficiently and meets scientific milestones. Maintain core lab infrastructure. Support upkeep of lab equipment, troubleshoot routine technical issues, and coordinate service contracts. Ensuring proper calibration and compliance of imaging systems, molecular biology tools, and animal facility needs.
20% - Essential - Laboratory supply and materials management. Order, organize, and track all reagents, consumables, and specialized materials required for experiments, including those used for animal work, cell culture, imaging, and molecular assays. Maintain inventories and anticipate needs for data collection and model generation workflows.
20% - Essential - Experimental support with data collection. Assist with hands-on research tasks such as preparing samples, running biochemical assays, maintaining animal colonies, and collecting experimental data from cellular or animal models of TSC. This may include working with genetic mouse models used to explore TSC1/TSC2 mutations and mTOR pathway dysregulation. Enter experimental data into structured databases, ensure quality control of datasets, organize sequencing or imaging outputs, and perform initial statistical or computational analyses to help interpret neurodevelopmental results.
10% - Essential - Regulatory compliance & reporting. Maintain compliance with all institutional, federal, and funding agency regulations for research involving animals, human-derived materials (where applicable), and genetic manipulation. Prepare documents for IACUC, NIH, DoD, and other oversight bodies, and assist in grant progress reporting. Contribute to collaborative research efforts. Engage with collaborators across disciplines and institutions to support shared experimental designs, data integration, and multi-site studies. Attend lab meetings and contribute to strategic discussions on research direction and experimental design.
10% - Essential - Manuscript & grant preparation support. Collaborate with supervisor and team members to draft sections of research manuscripts, figures, and supporting documents. Contribute to writing and editing grant proposals and progress reports tied to TSC and broader neurodevelopmental research. Supervision & training of lab members. Help coordinate and supervise research assistants, undergraduate interns, and graduate trainees in the lab. Provide training on experimental techniques, data protocols, and laboratory safety practices.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's Degree - related field and work experience directly related to the assigned research area; or a high school diploma and advanced journey-level work experience in a clinical or research setting.
