Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Research Lab Manager in the vivarium located on the Dahlonega campus. This position represents one open slot in our research facility, and will instill the student worker with specific and transferable research skills that will make the student more marketable for graduate school and industry positions.
Students who serve as caretakers in the facility must be enrolled in a full course load (defined as 12 hours of coursework during Spring and Fall semesters and 6 hours of coursework during Summer semesters). Student workers in the vivarium are expected to commit at least one year to the position (more than one year of commitment is preferred) with the commitment period spanning a winter and/or summer break. Reliable transportation is required, as the work in the lab must be done by at least one caretaker every day of the week.

Responsibilities
- Maintain a schedule of animal facility cleanings and daily animal checks.
- Oversee cleaning of facility and daily checks on animals.
- Training students to conduct cleaning and daily checks on animals.
- Meeting the research subject needs of faculty research by maintaining breeding pairs and associated documentation.
- Training and working alongside students who are completing their course requirements for the Biopsychology Lab in the Spring semesters.
- Maintaining and updating a digital inventory of animals and all supplies.
- Taking increased responsibility for the animal facility during the summer, holiday breaks, and during emergency weather and electrical power situations.
- Maintaining consistent communication with faculty involved with animal research regarding the health of the animals and any additional information regarding the animal facility.
- Fulfilling daily, weekly, and monthly tasks as mandated through the online vivarium system and as required for regular maintenance of the facility.
- Upholding values of honesty, integrity, and diligence in your work.
- Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
- Training is required and will be provided prior to start date.
- Past experience in animal care taking and husbandry is preferred.
