Job Description

Under general supervision, performs police communications and related clerical work in a central communications center.

Responsibilities

  • The Police Communications Operator is a civilian non-sworn position within the BSU Police Force. The P.C.O. shall adhere to the Rules, Regulations and Procedures established for non-sworn members of the Police Force.
  • Operates police radio, telephone, computer terminals and surveillance cameras to relay information between police units, complainants, citizens or other agencies.
  • Carries out directives of the Shift Supervisor for response, to trouble, requests for escort service, and directives as assigned.
  • Network(Communicates with the Systems Communication Sys. Com.) for helicopter (MEDIVAC) flight coverage and assign units accordingly for landing procedures.
  • Announces radio station identification calls on an hourly basis.
  • Broadcasts descriptions of missing and/or wanted persons (in detail).
  • Provides record/warrant checks for Police Personnel per CJIS directives.
  • Prepares assignment sheets as directed.
  • Maintain logs and records relative to police operations through Informant –
  • Keep Crime Log on U-Drive up-to-date as report is generated daily – all reports should be put in by the end of shift
  • Is responsible for assisting the Shift Commander within adjacent area, safeguarding equipment, and material in the Communications Control Room
  • Maintains Administrative Call-In Log in Informant recording time when shift reports for duty, and leave usage.
  • Must put all calls in as required, make sure spell check is use for accuracy
  • Make sure 10-8s are recorded accurately when officers, pcos and security guards call when they’re on-duty; also when they are 10-7 off-duty
  • Make sure all overtime duty is all recorded 10-8s as well as 10-7s
  • Record all leave usage of officers, pcos and security guards
  • Monitors Closed-Circuit Television, Computerized Card Access, alarm systems and follow prescribed procedures for effective use thereof.
  • Becomes familiar with Police Force directives sufficient enough to carry out the functions of the position and stay particularly alert for emergency situations, such as, but not limited to, Fire, Bomb Threat, Helicopter Flights, Radiation Safety, etc
  • Submits reports when required and/or requested by competent authority.
  • Presents an attentive appearance when speaking with campus personnel and visitors, being courteous and willing to serve the University's best interests at all times.
  • Maintains accurate records for all BSU Parking Citations, daily, as assigned by the PCO Lead/Supervisor.
  • Must input tickets in database accurately
  • Must run tickets through MVA to gain address for tripling letters to violator
  • Issues Parking Permits
  • Must be sure correct permit is issued
  • Make sure the payment is correct for the type of permit issued
  • Make sure hangtag # is on card, with receipt number, amount paid, date paid, permit # on receipt given back to purchaser
  • Must make sure all information on registration card is complete, particularly tag#
  • Initial and date card when completed
  • Must have no criminal history subject to the background investigation.
  • Must qualify and operate the CJIS Network Operations.
  • Must be willing to work on a rotating schedule, 40-hours per week.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED

Conditions Of Employment

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to successfully pass Criminal Justice Information System Test.

Salary : $50,000 - $53,000
