$2,348 to $3,003 per month – Range 29 (2025-2026 Classified Salary Schedule)

Maintenance Specialist, Access Control/Locksmith 50%:

$3,079 – $3,933.5 – Range 40 (2025-2026 Classified Salary Schedule)

Appointments are hired at the first step of the range. The second step is paid after the first year of satisfactory service with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum sixth step.

Work Locations: Columbia College; Sonora, CA

40 hours per week, 12 months per year

5 days per week, 8 hours per day

Monday through Friday (6:00am – 2:30pm)

(Evening and weekend hours may be required)

Benefits :

The District currently pays for a health options for the employee and dependents. Employees may elect to pay a premium for a higher health option. Vision care and dental insurance premiums for the employee and dependents is District paid. Income protection and life insurance premiums for the employee are also District paid. The estimated cost of District provided benefits (health, dental, vision, and life) is $24,408 annually.

Job Description:

Maintenance Technician 50%

DEFINITIONUnder general supervision, performs a wide range of semi-skilled trades duties involving the maintenance, repair and construction of school facilities, offices and large buildings; performs basic and broad support for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, HVAC and other services; operates a variety of hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner; and performs related work as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the second working level class in the Maintenance Support Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Incumbents in this class perform semi-skilled duties in support of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, HVAC and other services. Incumbents function as generalists, performing semi-skilled duties that emphasize preventive maintenance and require a basic and general knowledge multiple trade areas, but do not require advanced-level skills in any single area.This class can be distinguished from the lower-level Maintenance Assistant class because incumbents in that class primarily perform general facility support duties (such as moving furniture and setting up for events) and also perform routine and unskilled maintenance and repair duties. This class can also be distinguished from the higher-level Maintenance Specialist classes because incumbents in those classes perform the full range of skilled duties required in a specialized maintenance trade area such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, or HVAC technology.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDIncumbents in this class work under the general supervision of a manager, working alone on routine or regular work assignments and checking with the supervisor on non-routine assignments or when in doubt as to the correct procedures to follow.Incumbents do not directly or indirectly lead or supervise other full-time employees.

Maintenance Specialist, Access Control/Locksmith 50%

DEFINITIONUnder direction, independently performs the most difficult and complex journey-level trade duties as a maintenance specialist – access controls/locksmith; installs, repairs and maintains standard to complex lock and key systems, door hardware, and electronic access controls; administers a master record system of keys and locks; maintains and oversees district-wide access control system; performs semiskilled duties related to other maintenance trade areas; and performs related work as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is a specialist level, skilled maintenance class in the Maintenance Support Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Incumbents in this class work independently and perform complex journey-level duties related to access controls and locksmith. Incumbents utilize specialized skills that have generally been obtained through technical education and/or substantial on the-job experience.This class can be distinguished from the lower-level class of Maintenance Technician because incumbents in that class perform semi-skilled maintenance duties that often span multiple maintenance trade areas. It can be distinguished from higher-level Maintenance Lead classes because incumbents in those classes serve as lead workers by assigning, directing and monitoring the work of subordinate skilled and semi-skilled staff on a regular, project or assignment basis.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDIncumbents in this class work under the direction of a manager, receiving occasional supervision while working toward a definite objective that requires use of a wide range of procedures. Incumbents plan and/or determine specific procedures or equipment required to meet assigned objectives and solve nonroutine problems, referring only unusual matters to the supervisor.An incumbent in this class does not directly lead or supervise other full-time employees, but may assign, direct and/or monitor the work of subordinate full time and/or part time employees on a project or assignment basis.

Maintenance Technician 50%

Knowledge Of:

  • Methods, materials, equipment, techniques and applications of semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, HVAC and other services.
  • Operational characteristics of various hand and power tools.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.

Ability To:

  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work within the area of assignment.
  • Repair and maintain pumps, motors and related mechanical equipment.
  • Apply appropriate chemicals according to established safety standards and procedures.
  • Safely and effectively operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Maintain simple records and prepare reports.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Maintenance Specialist, Access Control/Locksmith 50%

Knowledge Of:

  • Skilled methods, techniques, supplies, materials, and equipment utilized in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems; work pertaining to facility, building, and equipment maintenance, repair, and construction.
  • Key management software, Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
  • Legal mandates, policies, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the maintenance, repair, and construction of public facilities, office buildings, and equipment.
  • Principles and procedures of routine preventive maintenance.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Ability to:

  • Drive a service vehicle to and from work sites.
  • Operate a variety of manual and motorized tools.
  • Accurately estimate time and material costs.
  • Perform highly skilled and complex craft maintenance functions.
  • Interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, schematics, and other data pertaining to the maintenance, repair, and construction of facilities, office buildings, and equipment.
  • Ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of the work.

Education And Experience:

Any combination of education, experience and/or training that would likely provide the above-required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. Typical background patterns that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities are:

  • Education: Possession of a High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Two years performing basic maintenance duties in support of one or more skilled trade area such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, and/or HVAC

Maintenance Specialist, Access Control/Locksmith 50%

  • Education: Possession of a High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Two years performing semi-skilled duties as a locksmith.
  • Substitution: Completion of an approved vocational training course in commercial locksmith techniques may substitute for one of the above-required years of experience.

  • Performs semi-skilled maintenance, repair and construction tasks pertaining to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding and HVAC projects.
  • Performs semi-skilled duties in the construction and maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, shelving, whiteboards, bulletin boards and various other structures and fixtures.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains gas and water lines.
  • Installs and/or replaces door and window glass.
  • Makes minor electrical installations and repairs; adjusts and maintains electrical equipment and a variety of devices.
  • Assists in the routine repair of heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) equipment.
  • Replaces carpeting and floor tile.
  • Assists in the installation, repair and maintenance of door locks and closures.
  • Prepares surfaces, mixes paint and finishes a variety of equipment, furniture, school and physical structures.
  • Operates equipment, such as a light truck, tractor and/or other motorized equipment.
  • Maintains basic records; monitors supply and equipment inventories and recommends purchases.

Maintenance Specialist, Access Control/Locksmith 50%

  • Interprets master keying guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of access controls and lock systems to preserve the integrity of the district’s master key system while meeting campus requests.
  • Ensures adherence to district policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety standards.
  • Creates, updates, maintains, and audits key and electronic access database on a continuous basis.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs and adjusts different types of building locks, reload cylinders, door closers, digital entry systems, automatic doors and controls, power supplies, motion detectors, transmitters and electric strikes.
  • Cuts keys with or without patterns and guides and issues access for authorized personnel in accordance with district approval process.
  • Assists with determining locking and access system requirements for building renovations and new construction.
  • Determines established applicable hardware specification’s for locks and locking devices by interpreting hardware schedules, blueprints, plans, sketches, work orders, etc.
  • Repairs and removes obstructions to open locks; removes broken keys and foreign objects from locks.
  • Changes lock combinations and prepares a record of the combination changes; programs special keypad locksets with names, times and entry status.
  • Maintains security of lock shop, maintains security of key codes and all mechanical security systems, and surveys building locks and locking systems to assure adequate building security.
  • Requisitions key blanks and lock parts; maintains an appropriate inventory of locksmith supplies and materials.
  • Plans, organizes and lays out assigned tasks; estimates labor and material project costs.
  • Maintains a variety of records including those related to preventive maintenance and service performed.
  • Performs semi-skilled duties related to other maintenance trade areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
