Position OverviewThe University of Kansas Department of Special Education invites experienced scholars (e.g., retired university faculty, field researchers, program administrators, building principals, professional developers, teacher mentors, and academic coaches) to submit applications for part-time positions as online course instructors. Amount of work required can vary by position and will range in FTE.
Applications will be reviewed and placed in a pool for future consideration. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Specifically, we cannot currently offer employment to candidates residing in the following states: California and Delaware. Job DescriptionLecturers are untenured, non-tenure-track members of the faculty with limited term appointments, whose primary role is instructional with no obligations to perform research or service.Required Qualifications1. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in special education, educational leadership, educational psychology or related human services field for graduate teaching assignments.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.Preferred QualificationsExpertise related to inclusive learning community program development, classroom supervision, online teaching, and school leadership experience. - Experience teaching, supervising, or coaching adult learners.
- Experience teaching in an online environment.
- Experience working in public schools providing integrated special education services for students with disabilities within general education classrooms.
- Experience related to the specific subject area of the course(s) in need of coverage. This will vary semester to semester and could include the areas of High Incidence, Autism, Transition or Leadership in Special and Inclusive Education.
