Primary Purpose Of The Organizational Unit

The mission of the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management (ISSCM) is to provide high-quality programs in information systems and supply chain management. We achieve this by integrating quality education with relevant research and professional service for industry and academe. This endeavor produces principled leaders and exceptional problem solvers with an innovative mindset and a commitment to improve and sustain organizations in a global environment and the communities in which they live.

The ISSCM Department comprises faculty in the Information Systems and Supply Chain Management/Operations areas. As of Fall 2025, the Department is serving about 500 undergraduate students and 140 graduate students, most of them in the MS in Information Technology & Management (MSITM) program or its stackable certificates in Cyber Security, Business Analytics, Generative AI, Cloud Computing & Security Analytics, or Supply Chain Management. The ISSCM Department has an active Ph.D. program in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems. All programs, including the BS in ISSCM, BS in Cybersecurity, and MSITM, are offered online and in person. All ISSCM offerings are well aligned with CompTIA, SAP, and Amazon Web Services, offering a pathway for the students to independently gain industry certifications. The department has active teaching and research relationships with several organizations with a presence in the region, including Cone Health, Volvo Trucks North America, VF Corporation, as well as multiple regional logistics and transportation organizations located in the area. Our faculty members are active in research and have published in such journals as Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Management Science, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Cleaner Production, Decision Sciences, and other very high-quality journals. Faculty members in the Department have received external funding from agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor, Google, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The Bryan School of Business and Economics has 4,765 undergraduate and graduate students and over 130 full- and part-time faculty members housed in six departments. Accredited in both business and accounting by AACSB, the Bryan School is the recipient of many rankings, honors, and accolades. Additionally, in recent years, its tenure-stream faculty members averaged 2 to 3 peer-reviewed journal articles each, among them 15-20 in FT50 journals plus another 20-25 in other 4 or 4* journals (CABS AJG), in addition to books and grants. More information about the School may be found at https://bryan.uncg.edu/.
