Position Summary:
The University of North Carolina Asheville Department of English invites applications for a Lecturer in English/Creative Writing to begin Fall 2026.
The Department of English at University of North Carolina at Asheville is seeking a full-time lecturer with a specialization in Creative Nonfiction. The candidate should hold either an MFA or a PhD in Creative Writing and have experience teaching Creative Writing in more than one genre, as well as First Year Writing. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, considering UNC Asheville’s prioritizing of undergraduate education. Academic responsibilities include teaching undergraduate creative writing courses, First Year Writing, and occasional introductory and upper-level literature courses. The teaching load is three 4-hour courses per semester. This position offers a two-year contract, with the possibility of renewal. We seek a colleague who is a pedagogical innovator, one who will help our students make connections between creative and scholarly writing. The successful candidate should also be committed to supporting and growing an outward-facing, community-engaged Creative Writing program. Lecturers will prioritize teaching a full load of 12 credit hours per semester, offer service to the department, and take advantage of professional development opportunities. Individuals with a passion for undergraduate teaching and interest in a career at an institution focused on the liberal arts are strongly encouraged to apply.
