Job Summary

The School of Journalism and Media in the College of Communication and Information seeks outstanding applicants for Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Broadcast Journalism. The successful candidate will teach courses in broadcast journalism and lead, teach, and mentor a team of students to produce award-winning work produced in a highly energized TV studio environment in new, state-of-the-art facilities in partnership with UK Athletics in the heart of Downtown Lexington. Courses include broadcast news writing, reporting, and TV news production.

This is a non-tenure eligible, academic year (August through May), 9-month faculty appointment in the Lecturer Title Series. The successful candidate would be given a one-year contract with eligibility for renewal based on performance and the needs of the program.

Lecturers are primarily devoted to instruction and are expected to teach up to eight courses per academic year, depending on the needs of the School. Lecturers who teach fewer than eight courses would also engage in service activities or other instructional activities.

The successful candidate should hold a master’s degree or higher in journalism, communication, or related field and have professional experience in television journalism. Preferred qualifications include university-level teaching experience or experience supervising interns or new graduates in a professional setting. In the case of an applicant with significant professional experience (more than 10 years of professional experience, preferably with progressive advancement to higher ranked roles and markets), we may be able to petition for appointment without an advanced degree. Appointment at the rank of senior lecturer may be considered if the successful applicant has six years of full-time teaching experience at the collegiate level and can demonstrate teaching excellence through a teaching portfolio.
