Fall Semester and Winter Intersession: Monday - Thursday 11:00 A.M. - 7:30 P.M. and Friday 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.

Spring Semester and Summer Session: Monday - Friday 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.

Under the direction of the center manager or supervisor, provide support services for instruction within the Center by the operation and demonstration of multimedia, computerized, and audiovisual equipment, the distribution and control of instructional materials, and to do related work as required.

Essential Duties

  • May act in a lead capacity in the Center and associated labs in the absence of the manager or supervisor.
  • Monitors activities within the Center.
  • Trains and acts as the functional lead over student assistants and tutors.
  • Conducts orientations for faculty, classes and students .
  • Provides study materials to students.
  • Administers tests to students and coordinators with instructors regarding test scores. Implement testing procedures.
  • Coordinate with DSP&S regarding accommodation needs for students.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of a wide variety of software applications and multimedia programs delivered through a network system.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of audiovisual and specialized equipment used for instructional support.
  • Insures the proper functioning of multimedia, computerized, and audiovisual equipment, including the elimination of computer viruses.
  • Submits requests for equipment repair; performs preventative maintenance.
  • Assists with the selection and purchase of instructional materials and supplies.
  • Monitors tutoring services offered during extended instruction hours.
  • Implements and suggests systems to improve the operation of the Center.
  • Insures that the Center is ready for continuous operations; anticipates student and teacher needs; maintains overall appearance of the Center.
  • Assists in the development of instructional materials as required.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the Foreign Languages Lab.
  • Duplicates audio tapes and arranges for the replacement or addition of videotaped programs.
  • Opens the Center as necessary; shuts off major power outlets and secures the Center upon closing.
  • Maintains an overall knowledge of other areas of Learning Resources.
  • At the request of a supervisor, shall perform a variety of unscheduled duties normally and traditionally performed by a Learning Assistance Center Assistant III.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • Associate degree in any field.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with an instructional support program with lead responsibilities.

  • Methods, equipment, and materials, including tutoring, computer assisted instruction, and record keeping systems, required to provide learning services for various disciplines

  • Exercise judgment in dealing with the diverse clientele of a Learning Assistance Center, including faculty, staff, and students

Physical Demands

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various District and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.

Environmental Elements

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
