Our Program And Who We Are Looking For

Portland Community College | Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT)

Are you a seasoned aircraft mechanic ready to hang up the wrenches and start shaping the future of flight? Portland Community College is seeking a passionate Aviation Maintenance Instructor to join our faculty.

This isn't just a teaching job; it’s a mentorship role where your "lived experience" becomes the blueprint for the next generation of FAA-certified technicians. Help our diverse student body earn their Associate of Applied Science degree and master the skills needed to ace their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings.

The Best Schedule in the Industry

Forget The 24/7 Grind Of Hangar Shifts And AOG Emergencies. We Offer a Work-life Balance That Industry Jobs Simply Can't Match:

  • Academic Year Schedule: Minimum 7-month teaching contract with the opportunity for increased compensation for additional teaching assignments.
  • Summers Flexibility: Enjoy your summers for travel, personal projects, or industry consulting and much needed family time...
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Generous health, dental, and vision insurance, plus a robust retirement package through the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

Your Role: Training the Next Generation

As a Faculty Member, You Will Bridge The Gap Between Textbook Theory And Hangar Reality. You Will Teach a Dynamic Combination Of:

  • General Subjects: Aircraft Hardware, Materials and Processes, Regulations, Ground handling and Servicing—basic knowledge that serves as a base for later subjects.
  • Airframe Structures: From sheet metal to composites, bolts, nuts, and rivets to rigging, balancing, and painting—these are the skills needed to build, inspect, and repair aircraft.
  • Airframe Systems: Masterminding the "body" of the aircraft—Electricity, A/C & Pressurization, Hydraulics, Landing Gear, Communication, Navigation, and Auto flight.
  • Powerplant Systems: Going under the cowling—Reciprocating and Turbine Engines, Ignition, Starting, Lubrication, Engine Air, and Exhaust systems.

What We’re Looking For

We aren't just looking for a technician; we’re looking for a collaborative leader.

  • Industry Expert: You bring a deep background in aviation maintenance and a desire to share your "lessons learned."
  • Inclusive Educator: You are committed to student success and can build authentic connections with students from all walks of life.
  • Mentor Mindset: You are eager to use your industry perspective to increase workplace readiness for our graduates.

Join the PCC Community

At Portland Community College, we believe in delivering quality education through inclusive training environments. If you are ready to use your expertise to empower a diverse culture of future mechanics, we want to hear from you.

Note: As part of your application to be considered for this Instructor position, we will ask you to respond to this important question:

In what ways do, or would, your lived experiences shape your culturally- responsive teaching? Please give examples.
