Position Summary
This position will be required to maintain HVAC systems in a number of assigned buildings and respond to other buildings to assist as required. This position requires a very broad base of knowledge due to the highly technical and widely disparate nature of various elements of HVAC type of work. Above average working knowledge & competencies demanded by this career field include but are not limited to- Boiler operation & theory, operation & controls diagnostics (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and digital), full range of thermodynamics, chiller operation & theory. All of which are interrelated with various auxiliary sub-systems that include but are not limited to; air coils, heat exchangers and other heat transfer equipment that utilize air-to-air, air-to-water and water-to-water side methods, any of which can be the cause or causes of improper temperature/humidity/flow control.
Licensure Requirement: Universal Technician License as approved by EPA for refrigerant reclamation and maintenance of pressurized air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F). Valid Driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Typical work hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with scheduled pager on-call duties. Employees must be able to respond to UNC Asheville within 30 minutes when carrying the on-call beeper. Other occasional overtime outside of pager on-call duties may be needed on evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the department.
The employee in this position shall be identified as critical personnel in accordance with UNC Asheville policy.
