Job Description
The department of Film History at Sarah Lawrence College seeks a full-time guest faculty member to teach four courses during the 2026-2027 academic year (1 seminar and 1 lecture each semester). Areas of interest include topics in science fiction, animation, indigenous/anticolonial film, and queer cinema, but candidates should feel free to submit course proposals in other areas as well that complement our current offerings.
Seminars at Sarah Lawrence have a unique structure. In addition to teaching the seminar (maximum 15 students), the faculty member will meet one-on-one with each student every other week to assist them in the conception, design, and execution of an individualized project related to the course, culminating in a research paper. For lecture courses (maximum 45 students), the faculty member will also be responsible for meeting weekly or biweekly with students in small groups (maximum 15 students).
Application materials should include a cover letter, CV, four to six proposed course descriptions, and two references who will be contacted for letters of recommendation upon the submission of the candidate’s application.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. This is an in-person teaching appointment, with the expectation that the appointed individual will teach on campus for the duration of the contract period.
Compensation for this position is a per-course rate based on experience.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should either be ABD or hold a Ph.D. in Film Studies and have prior teaching experience.
