Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
The Energy Services Department consists of five groups: (1) Cogeneration Systems (generates electricity and steam, and the distribution of steam throughout campus and UNC Hospitals); (2) Electric Distribution Systems (distribution of electrical power throughout campus); (3) Chilled Water Systems (producing and distributing chilled water throughout campus); (4) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater (for the use and conservation of water, as well as the proper management of stormwater and runoff); and (5) Administration (provides GIS, SCADA, coordination of operational information technologies, strategic planning, and management functions). Together these five groups provide safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective steam, electricity, chilled water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water utility services to the University’s campus in a manner that moves UNC closer to the goals of Three Zeros Environmental Initiative.
Position Summary
This position serves as Executive Assistant to Energy Services. The position’s primary purpose is to organize, plan and provide administrative support to the Executive Director (ED) of Energy Services and to act on the ED’s behalf when requested. This position is the right hand to the ED of Energy Services. Additionally, this position will provide administrative support to the entire Energy Services administration group. This includes the Associate Director, Water, Wastewater and Stormwater personnel, and several other positions. This requires good judgment, great organizational skills and experience in planning to accomplish goals. This position must align with and support the goals of the Energy Services by action and example in a fashion that reflects the financial value of services provided by the department. Performance of assigned duties is essential to ensure that responsive quality service is provided to the University, UNC Hospitals community, and to the outside utility companies supplying electricity, water and sewer services, and natural gas to the University. The incumbent is expected to take the initiative to assume responsibilities that will relieve the administrative burden on the ED, as well as other administrative staff.
This position requires a high degree of analytical complexity. On a daily basis incoming requests are constantly received by mail, fax, phone, email or personal requests that must be prioritized, responded to or referred to the Director or others. Reports must be prepared by compiling data gathered from various sources. These must be skillfully analyzed in order to produce correct data.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
Experience with University Financial and HR/payroll systems.
