Job Description

Title: Director, Student Access and Support Services

Unit: Non-Unit Professional (NUP)

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Student Support Services

General Summary: The Director of Student Access and Support Services (SASS) provides leadership and oversight for disability services across both campuses. This role ensures institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, supervises SASS staff, and coordinates accommodations and support services for students with documented disabilities. The Director also plays a central role in promoting accessibility, supporting faculty and staff, and advancing the College's commitment to equity and inclusion. The Director serves as a key resource for students, families, faculty, and external partners, ensuring that students with disabilities are fully integrated into the academic and co-curricular life of the College.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and daily support to SASS staff across both campuses.
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and workflow in alignment with College policies and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Guide staff in conducting assessments and using data analytics to inform program planning and improvement.
  • Maintain and oversee the Accommodate system, including user access, group management, review of initial request forms, updates to semester dates, templates, and picklists, and the creation and analysis of reports.
  • Oversee the review of disability documentation (e.g., provider forms, neuropsychological and psycho-educational evaluations) to determine eligibility and appropriate accommodations.
  • Provide and supervise individualized case management for students with physical, sensory, mobility, and other disabilities.
  • Coordinate specialized services such as scribes, CART providers, and ASL interpreters.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to arrange room changes, furniture adjustments, and other accessibility related needs.
  • Support students in selecting and using assistive technologies and ensure accessibility within online learning environments.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on assistive technologies and accessible digital content.
  • Partner with Academic Technology to assist faculty in using Blackboard Ally and implementing accessible formats in the learning management system.
  • Monitor emerging trends in information and communication technology (ICT) accessibility and recommend tools that enhance student learning and independence.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on building accessibility compliance.
  • Provide consultation and training to faculty and staff on accommodations, accessibility practices, and digital accessibility standards.
  • Oversee accessibility for events including commencement-related activities.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal departments (including TRIO programs, ACE, OSE, etc.) and external agencies such as state human service organizations.
  • Oversee the management of accommodated testing.
  • Participate in college-wide initiatives, orientations, open houses, transition fairs, and community outreach events.
  • Present information about SASS services to prospective and current students, families, and educators.
  • Prepare departmental reports, including mid-term deficiency lists and year-end summaries.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Student Support Services to monitor departmental operations, workflow, and program effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental goals, policies, and initiatives that advance student success and retention.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Special Education, or a closely related field; minimum of three years of extensive experience working directly with individuals with disabilities, particularly recent experience supporting students with psychiatric and emotional disabilities, and working with diverse student populations in an education setting or comparable setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience providing accommodations in a postsecondary setting to students with mobility, sensory, and psychiatric disabilities.
  • Direct experience and ability with accessible digital content, assistive technologies, and supporting student with disabilities in an online learning environment. Possess technical skills using various tools and techniques to ensure electronic or information and communications technology accessibility on various platforms and willingness to learn.
  • Direct experience and familiarity with UDL principles, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and/or assistive technology
  • Excellent communication, organization, leadership, and planning skills.
  • Experience with program and budget management.
  • Experience implementing disability support services programs and providing case management.
  • Demonstrated ability in staff development and supervision of employees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability or interest in learning American Sign Language preferred
  • Bilingual proficiency a plus

Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed

Hours: 37.5 per week, schedule to be determined upon hire
