Job Summary
The Director of Student Life and Recreation provide leadership for the college¿s student engagement and recreation programs. The Director provides strategic leadership for co-curricular engagement, manages departmental facilities, and oversees student activity fee allocations to enhance the overall student experience.
Responsibilities
Strategic Programming & Student Leadership (35%)
Develop, implement, and evaluate a diverse array of student life programs, events, and services which provide meaningful co-curricular engagement for all GSC students.
Manage and track departmental budgets with funding from various sources, including student activity fees, state funds, fundraising, and sales.
Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations and maintenance of the Student Activity and Recreation Center (SARC).
Manage full-time professional staff members, including the Coordinator of Recreation and Coordinator of Student Life.
Lead the assessment and evaluation of student activities programs and services.
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited institution.
Three to five years of related experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives of the department.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver¿s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
May be required to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Master¿s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in managing Student Activity Fee (SAF) allocations and USG fiscal compliance.
Experience utilizing student engagement software (e.g., Presence, CampusLabs) for data collection and assessment.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Understanding of University System of Georgia Board of Regents policies, procedures, practices, requirements, and reporting structures.
Knowledge of student life programming and event planning.
Knowledge of budget management principles.
Ability to delegate responsibilities effectively.
Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
Proficient experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Proficient experience with job related software (Canva).
Skill in decision making, problem solving, and interpersonal relations.
Skill in oral and written communication.

- Work with the Dean of Students to lead New Student Orientation.
- Assist with other institutional signature events including Graduation, Student Leadership Academy, etc.
- Provide comprehensive supervision and support for all student organizations, including the approval process and management of operational forms.
- Assist the Dean of Students with the advisement and support of the Student Government Association.
- Lead the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of orientation leaders.
Manage and track departmental budgets with funding from various sources, including student activity fees, state funds, fundraising, and sales.
- Assist the Dean of Students with the Student Activity Fee allocation, management, and reconciliation processes.
- Maintain and update department websites and social media outlets.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the Office of Student Life and Recreation.
Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations and maintenance of the Student Activity and Recreation Center (SARC).
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Life and Recreation, including office administrative support functions.
- Ensure the safety and functionality of recreational spaces for student use.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Statistics Act (Clery ACT).
Manage full-time professional staff members, including the Coordinator of Recreation and Coordinator of Student Life.
- Oversee the hiring and training of Student Activity and Recreation Center (SARC) student staff.
- Direct and coordinate work within the division to ensure objectives are met.
Lead the assessment and evaluation of student activities programs and services.
- Review student participation, facilities usage, student satisfaction, and student learning data to inform future programming.
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited institution.
Three to five years of related experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives of the department.
