Job Summary
The Director, HR and Payroll Communications is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing integrated communication strategies aligned with the University's broader marketing goals. This role collaborates with leadership to drive messaging, oversee multi-platform projects, and measure impact while highlighting OHR initiatives and managing change communications. It plays a critical role in shaping how the University communicates its mission and priorities to faculty, staff, and students. Other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
30% - Essential - Strategic Planning and Management:
Work with OHR and MarCom leadership to develop a marketing and communications plan that supports strategic goals and priorities of OHR by increasing awareness of programs and services. Collaborate with OHR departments to develop communications and marketing goals. Serves as the senior communications advisor to OHR leadership crafting messaging, strategic priorities, and crisis communications. Utilize research and stakeholder insights to guide communication strategies and engagement goals. Identify challenges and emerging issues and develop effective communications solutions and strategies to support them.
25% - Essential - Communications:
Create effective internal communication channels to keep faculty, staff, and students informed and engaged. Develop and implement unified messaging that promotes initiatives, changes, and employee experience. Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent, aligned communication. Produce compelling content and support leadership with executive communications. Coordinate with MarCom on communications, media relations, and crisis response understanding the MarCom protocols for managing crisis communication.
20% - Essential - Branding:
Oversee OHR's brand, ensuring consistency with the University's brand in messaging and visual representation across all platforms and media. Work with MarCom to ensure proper use of University trademarks in materials, merchandise, giveaways, etc. Assist with University-wide brand events to engage constituents with the University and the OHR brand.
15% - Essential - Marketing:
Champion the use of storytelling to highlight employee recruitment and experience, made possible through OHR initiatives or partnerships. Oversee development of all marketing and communication materials including marketing collateral, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, feature articles, presentations, email marketing, website, social media, etc. Monitor and analyze communications metrics to assess the effectiveness and adjust strategies accordingly.
10% - Essential - Operations:
Provide regular reports regarding success of communication efforts. Analyze current publications and communication, identifying and researching key audiences about perceptions, attitudes, demographics, etc. Continuously analyze the customer experience and develop tools and approaches to improve it. Participate in OHR leadership and department meetings with MarCom and other meetings. Supervise project workflow working with MarCom project managers to ensure deadlines are met. Assist with other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's Degree - Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
Work Experience - 5 years

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Compensation Information
Expected Salary Range: $ 79,600.00 - $ 93,000.00
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
Essential Personnel Level
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
