Responsibilities
The Oracle Database team installs, designs and supports almost 300 Oracle database instances located in 3 different datacenters and the Oracle Cloud. We provide physical database support and via ticket escalation processes SQL, upgrade, security, disaster, backup/recovery and other logical support services.
This position's focus is as a physical Oracle DBA responsible for supporting the Oracle Database service offering at NWRDC. *Responsibilities include supporting all aspects of the Oracle Database environment(s)—both on-premises and in OCI—such as Oracle software installation, database configuration, administration, monitoring, maintenance, support, application deployment, SQL tuning, and customer service.
Database Service Delivery
Demonstrates, models and reinforces the agency's fundamental values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork
Provides professional and high-quality customer service
Coordinates with vendors and service providers to resolve database technical support issues
Administers Oracle databases, ASM instances, RMAN backups Manages and supports Oracle environment providing 24x7 support, including NWRDC’s multiple data centers, Oracle OCI cloud services and Oracle service components at other clouds
Manages and maintains Oracle database systems, including DB troubleshooting and patch management
Monitors Services Desk incident, requests and tasks and responds appropriately based on published time expectations
Must be available for on-call, overtime and emergency duties as required
Ability to support customer applications, debug and optimize SQL code
Ability to advise customers regarding application design and development issues
Internal Processes and Support
Follows all established NWRDC database processes, procedures and good procedures Develops documentation for Oracle database support processes, systems, and procedures
Participates in and complies with NWRDC change management procedures tracks time for Professional Services billing purposes
Provides second level technical support assistance to internal and external customers
Research and Planning
Researches, analyzes, recommends, designs, tests, and implements new database technologies and services to deliver cost effective and technically efficient solutions to internal and external customers
Maintains Required Continual Training To Add And Update Skills
Evaluates product enhancements to ensure continuous product improvement Perform other related work as assigned
Participates in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC's policy. Professional development and training are defined as learning undertaken by the employee to maintain and advance their skills, knowledge and competencies, specifically as they relate and add value to the job and workplace.
NWRDC provides support for a wide range of state and local government, as well K- 20 organizations across the State of Florida. These organizations are dependent on NWRDC in order to accomplish their missions. This requires NWRDC to maintain services 24x7, even during times of crisis or emergency. As such, all NWRDC staff are considered essential staff for operations of the State of Florida.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years again. (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Oracle Enterprise Management tools, RAC, DataGuard, performance tuning, migrations, upgrades and patching.
Oracle Database, OEM and Cloud certifications.

The ideal candidate must be available for on-call once every few weeks and should be able to provide restoration level services.
What is a typical day in this position?
A typical day starts with a two minute walk to your desk, logging in and reviewing an in-depth set of monitoring systems, OEM reports, backup reports, Data Guard/DR reports, server reports and other items including our ticketing/change management system that provide a 360 view of the underlying state of the Oracle services. After the early morning online stand-up meetings, the candidate would be working to resolve any issues, on scheduled changes and projects with a multi-national distributed and multi-time zone Oracle database team. Internal Oracle Team communications and Open Systems/Linux support through O365/Teams is continually available. When additional assistance outside of these teams is required, a large highly experienced staff with expertise in all core data center & cloud functions stands by to assist, no more than a ticket away.
What can I expect in the first 60-90 days?
The candidate will need to do a significant amount of process and tool training, coming up to speed with NWRDC and Oracle Team processes. Confirming that they can provide after hours support and restoration services. They will work with a senior DBA that has significant experience with these processes and our services. Once that cross training is sufficiently completed, the candidate will be able to provide after hours on-call support.
