What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Inside Higher Ed?
This position is responsible for routine custodial duties. This is a full time, on-campus position. Generous benefits include health, retirement, tuition assistance, and considerable time off.
Duties
Floor and furniture care; sweeping, mopping, vacuuming all floor types; carpet extraction, stripping resilient floors and stairwells using floor machines, grout cleaning and spot removal. Position requires ability to move furniture, machines and mop buckets necessary for tasks.
Event preparation and larger cleaning projects; detailed attention cleaning; move, arrange set up and break down for various campus events
Surface cleaning and sanitation; disinfecting high touch areas; dusting sills, fixtures, flat surfaces and wall washing; reaching lamp fixtures will require use of a 6 foot ladder and reaching overhead
Requirements
Maintains working relations with supervisor, fellow workers, students and faculty
Works independently and/or within a group
Demonstrates the ability to work with a diverse constituency
Physical demands: Occasionally requires bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, balancing and reaching above shoulder and down to floor and lifting 11-45lbs; Frequently requires twisting, turning, repetitive hand/wrist motion and forearm rotation; Constantly requires standing, walking, traveling from building to building multiple times a day and lifting and carrying up to 10lbs.

Hourly rate: $16 (37.5 hours a week)
Typical Shifts
Summer hours: Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm
Specific shifts will be discussed during the interview. Occasional overtime (after 40 hours/week).
The final candidate will pass a pre-employment physical and background investigation.
