Position Summary

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Coordinator for Military Student Experience (Coordinator or CMSE) serves as an integral member of the Military & Veteran Student Success (MVSS) Center staff and the larger Dean of Students (DOS) team. The position provides leadership, direction, and support through programmatic and strategic efforts for a comprehensive, holistic, and co-curricular veteran and military-connected student program. Under the leadership of the Program Director for the Carolina Veterans Resource Center, the Coordinator for Military Student Experience will advance the on-going visioning, development, implementation, and assessment of a programmatic agenda centered on student learning, retention, and success – academic, career, and personal – among UNC Chapel Hill’s student-identifying veterans, active duty, Reservist, National Guard, military-connected dependents, and ROTC students.

The position provides mentorship and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students, student employees, and interns and may serve as a facilitator for faculty, staff, and student educational seminars and trainings. The Coordinator cultivates positive relationships and is highly collaborative across the university and within the greater military-connected communities in the UNC System, region, and beyond.

Additionally, the Coordinator for Military Student Experience also provides highly individualized, holistic care and support for UNC students, specifically those connected to military service, including dependents. They communicate, verbally and in writing, with varied audiences as they triage, respond, and provide on-going support centered around veteran/military centered information and resources, acclimation and transition, and overall student success. This highly collaborative position will be assigned departments, organizations, or constituencies to serve as the primary, initial liaison to triage student concerns.
