Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences of the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or clinical-track faculty position in veterinary diagnostic imaging. The position is at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents; clinical service in diagnostic imaging; development of a basic science or clinical research program commensurate with effort allocation; participation in committee duties at the departmental, college or university level, and participation in continuing education at the local and national level.

The successful applicant will join a team of 3 board certified radiologists (with a 4th faculty member joining in the fall), a 4th year resident/clinical instructor, and 4 ACVR residents in training. The radiology section is supported by 4 veterinary technicians, 2 MRI technologists, and 2 administrative staff. Imaging equipment includes one large animal and two small animal radiology rooms equipped with digital radiography; digital fluoroscopy; portable radiology units for the large animal field service; three ultrasound units; a 40-slice CT scanner (upgrade to a 128-slice scanner scheduled for later this year); a 1.5T large bore MRI scanner, and a nuclear medicine suite with two gamma cameras. Both the CT and MRI scanner are equipped with small and large animal tables. An interventional suite equipped with digital fluoroscopy and a state-of-the-art 3D printing lab are on-site. All imaging modalities are interfaced with a PACS system.

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences has more than 50 tenure and clinical-track faculty, including board-certified specialists in radiology, anesthesiology, surgery, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, cardiology, behavior, dermatology, dentistry, nutrition, oncology, ophthalmology, sports medicine and rehabilitation, and avian and zoological medicine.

Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee flagship campus and is a beautiful and friendly place to live. It is a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountains, as well as a number of dog-friendly state parks and recreation areas. Outdoor recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, trail running, climbing and water sports. Knoxville has a vibrant cultural downtown with excellent restaurants; bustling farmers’ markets; live music of all genres, ballet, and theater; frequent art and cultural festivals; and men’s and women’s sporting events.

Qualifications

Requirements include a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree, completion of a formal residency training program in radiology/diagnostic imaging, and certification or eligibility for certification by the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI).
