Position Summary

The Career Success Power Skills Instructor – Adult Learnersfacilitatesa 74-hour, non-credit Power Skills course for adult learnersparticipatingin partnership initiatives between the Community College of Philadelphia and the City of Philadelphia. This course prepares participants for municipal and private-sector employment by strengthening critical workplace competencies and culminating in the ACTWorkKeysassessment, through which students may earn the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Working collaboratively with the Director of CCME Education and Training, the instructor ensures course readiness, student engagement, and instructional quality while supporting learners pursuing employment in essential City government roles and other skill-based careers.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Deliver provided curriculum while creating an engaging, student-centered classroom environment and ensuring all core course deliverables are met.
  • Providetimelyfeedback to students on assignments and in-class discussions.
  • Demonstrateappropriate useof instructional and learning technologies to enhance student learning and experience, including effective use of Canvas, CCP’s learning management system, to track student progress and engagement.
  • Facilitate instruction focused on critical thinking, problem solving, team building, budgeting, and interpersonal communication skills, culminating in student participation in the ACTWorkKeysassessment leading to the National Career Readiness Certificate.
  • Submit final pass/fail gradesin accordance withCollegerequirements.
  • Maintain critical documentation, including student sign-in sheets and attendance records, and provide documentation to CCME team members asrequired.Ensureany missed instructional sessions are made up to meet the total course hours assigned at the start of the course.
  • Attend professional development and instructortrainingsas needed to support effective instructional delivery and course maintenance, including but not limited to Banner, Canvas, ACTWorkKeys, and related systems.
  • Complete ACTWorkKeysProctor training anddemonstrateproficiencywith ACTWorkKeystesting protocols, including efficient management of class rosters within theWorkKeysplatform.
  • Administer andproctorthe final ACTWorkKeysassessment using the ACTWorkKeysand Valor platforms,in accordance withrequired guidelines and testing protocols.
  • Proactivelyidentifyand address classroom challenges and communicate with the CCME team to resolve issues related to the Career Success Power Skills course.
  • Establish and sustain an inclusive learning environment thatdemonstratesunderstanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff, and students.
  • Manage the learning environment with a student-centered focus by implementing diverse teaching and learning strategies that accommodate varied learning styles.
  • Strive for excellence in teaching by applying best practices in the discipline, modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention, and recognizing the unique needs, culture, and context of learners.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the College’s mission, vision, and values through a sense of connection, responsibility, and advocacy for student learning and well-being.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience instructing or training adult learners in workforce development, professional skills, or related areas.
  • Strong facilitation, classroom management, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver instruction in both in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Proficiencyinlearning management systems and basic educational technology.
  • Ability to work evening hours andmaintainschedule flexibility as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, workforce development, human resources, ora related field.
  • Experience teaching Power Skills, employability skills, or career readiness curricula.
  • Familiarity with ACTWorkKeysor similar workforce assessments.
  • Experience working with municipal workforce initiatives, community-based programs, or adult education populations.
